I had a similar issue but with the sun jdk (solution here).
It turned out, weirdly, that the issue was with the alsa driver. Renaming that driver so that it isn't loaded helped and everything has since worked like a charm with padsp infront of the java command.

Re: Some results from KPMC
Of course I know of that list - but I hesitate to say it is correct since the results differ from sverres.
OTOH Sverre seems to be there and he is also in the list, so unless he played two years straight it seems to be correct.

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
Who said anything about hosting video? A Youtube plugin could be used for videos, and a Skype plugin for live chat.
Well, yes - but ⋅ Youtube will let you upload at most 15min per segment (unless you are allowed to publish more) ⋅ Youtube will not let you do live streaming ...

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
The really different thing I have seen is the embedded (streaming?) video capability. But videos are easy these days, and if this is to be the differentiator, pretty soon each server will have streaming video. Plus - videos have an overhead - somebody needs to shoot them. And for that to work, the ...

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
When the server is up and running its already in another phase, one that requires a much smaller leap of faith. And i want to reward those that dare today, knowing the dream and a limited amount of information. When the server launches we will surely keep the crowd-sourcing model but eliminate ...

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
KGS doesn't allow or support third party clients. I shifted most of my Go activities to my iPad, which limits me to servers with communities that aren't very accessible or social, or to a server I don't want to play on (IGS). I would agree that KGS is the best server around, by a long shot, with a ...

Kaya.gs wrote:Hey pel. Great suggestion about demoing, i will talk to Patricio about demoing the board and the chats. However within a month we will most likely be able to play already so we might put off demo-ing the server.
One suggestion might be to do a video recording and put it on youtube.

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
I find this interesting, I might even put money behind it but:
⋅ Show me some working code, please.
I'm sorry, but I work with Change Management for a living and I see so many "almost working" projects getting stuck on something very fundamental (e.g. handling synchronous ...

Re: KGS Sound Issues in Ubuntu
Ok, I've finally found a solution.
By renaming libjsoundalsa.so
$ mv /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/amd64/libjsoundalsa.so \
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/amd64/libjsoundalsa.so.rename
I finally got the sound working! Would be interesting to know why NOT using alsa would help ...

Re: KGS Sound Issues in Ubuntu
I would be interested in peoples results running the Java sound demo[1],
well if you suffer from this problem that is.
In particular the tests on the Juke Box-tab.

Re: KGS Sound Issues in Ubuntu
Yes, I've removed openjdk (should not have to, but did it anyway just to be sure).
The java executable changes when java version is upgraded (due to the symlink structure you usually find that out the hard way )
but that is not the issue. I've also tried removing the hack and runing the padsp ...

Re: KGS Sound Issues in Ubuntu
This problem is driving me mad.
I use the same "hack" with padsp and java.bin as judicata describes.
I also have the same "partial" sound problem as jaliz.
On my 32-bit laptop it works just fine
On my 64-bit desktop I have this issue
Both running ubuntu 10.10.

You don't mention for which platform - but in case you're a linux/unix user there is an awesome utility called sgf2dg.
