Re: Sphere-Go

A beautiful and innovative idea! The aesthetic is futuristic and elegant at the same time.

I worry about the stability of the board if it's made out of separate magnetic spheres though. If one sphere slips from the grid during a game all progress will be lost. Maybe the solution Jujube suggested ...

LittleLamb youtube commentary

Hey guys!

I am here to share my new favourite internet Go commentator with you guys. Zhang Yuanbo 4D a.k.a. LittleLamb plays games on Tygem and reviews them afterwards. I like him over others because he is the highest skilled player I know who does this kind of stuff and in contrast with Battoussai ...

Ah, yes, a point I forgot to make.

I for one have not seen any evidence of reaching dan level in go will provide you with the gift (curse?) of immortality. Please be advised.

Re: become a dan player or die

Interesting observation!

Of course the enjoyment of the game is very subjective. As you gain strength you will apply different mental concepts to the game of go and they will all make you enjoy go in a different way.

In the beginning you were convinced that every move could work. This made you ...

Ah, I forgot that! That means that I more considerate than I was aware of. :P

I want to be sure I am sticking with it this time. If I am still here in a week or two, we can start a game.

Re: Studying one game for a long time

Ah, thanks for your interesting comments, John. Finding the main narrative of a go game seems to be a very nice way to study them. I will surely start looking for this in my games.

A game I have been studying for a while now (more because it's the one that I first started with than any other reason ...

Re: Studying one game for a long time

So to summarize your opinion is not to waste time on pro games at all.

If we talk about 'width' versus 'depth' however, would you prefer a smaller amount of problems over a larger amount? The smaller amount would allow you to 'recognize' situations from the problems and guide you a bit. I do not ...

Re: Greetings from a Dutch beginner

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say hi again after a long go playing hiatus. It was my birthday recently and I got a nice go board from my parents, which motivated me to start playing again.

Last year I disappeared without a trace. I think I left Skydyr hanging in a Malkovich-game here, so my apologies ...

Studying one game for a long time

So, in the past half year there has been only one professional game of go I have been studying. I am interested in what your opinions are on the 'width' versus 'depth' of material you study.

I know personally that learning happens faster and more permanent when you can relate the material to ...

The importance of counting

Lately, I've noticed a tendency in my go that might be familiar to you. It began dawning on me in conversations with Skydyr and reviews from some nice folks (Frozensoul, Starstorm etc.) on KGS. With the moves you play you try to squeeze the most out of a position as possible. This is because of our ...

Re: Lee Sedol vs Western Pros

I agree - My gut feeling from the games is they seem kinda rather like shidougo to me.

I'm really interested in what you mean by this. Do you mean that the difference in level is obvious? Or is there some way you can gather from the playing style that Lee Sedol is playing these games as teaching ...

Re: Chinese School of Chess

I don't think it is all that precise, because it depends so much on the ingredients at hand, and there are no recipes that describe precise timings, probably because they would be in seconds. I don't know how many times I have heard this, but "Chinese cook by taste, not measuring ingredients ...

Re: small avelanche variation refutation

The shape looks similar to the fight that developed from the small-avalanche double hane in my malkovich game against Deflow. It's not exactly the same, but might be worth looking at because it features the same general idea of a crosscut fight stemming from it.

Jep, it might me worth looking at ...

Re: Losing concentration

I study on the university here in the Netherlands and follow some tough mathemathical courses. The exams we have to pass are all three hours in length. One thing I have learned over the years is, however difficult or easy the exam might be, to have a break after one and a half hours. I eat an apple ...
