Re: Lost a game - group got killed - better invasion needed
Honestly everyone that's really helpful, it will take me some time to read through the answers properly - I am reading that chapter on the endgame and it has totally changed my knowledge - I know how to play the endgame now! Also the posts about reducing the lower framework with the power of the ...

Lost a game - group got killed - better invasion needed
Hi,
I lost this game, I was pretty lost by move 60-80, a few things I noticed:
11, also 19 & 21 The top-left-hand-side approach made my stones unhappy, I seemed to walk in to their star point on the top side while they were able to solidify territory. I don't really know how to handle pincers (as ...

Re: How old are you?
I'm 25.
A few things I have noticed in the last few years:
It gets harder to cut my toenails (sorry, not the nicest image)
It takes me at least 3 days to get over a hangover
I like my steak rare-to-medium instead of well-done
The urge to play go has become stronger
I cannot last until lunchtime ...

Etiquette: When to pass? (i.e. how long to play on)
Hi guys & gals,
I've won my last 4 games and I feel pretty good about that. Just thought that I'd throw that in there I've only played 7 rated games on KGS (& a few non-rated) but feel myself improving and making more solid moves with each game.
So I was wondering, the last game was pretty tough ...

Re: How do you 'see' and retain stone positions while readin
I think trying to remember anything is going about it the wrong way. My reading is pretty awful, but I get much better results from trying to visualise the changing board situatiion. I'm still doing the "he goes there I go there" thing, but instead of looking at the board and trying to remember ...

Re: Go Strength Test
12 kyu it rated me, I am 13 kyu kgs. (Took the test after a few glasses of wine and midnight local time)
:o)
It seems more middle-game judgement oriented rather than l&d/reading oriented, at least to me.

How do you 'see' and retain stone positions while reading
Hi,
I played a game on KGS and won against a 14kyu, just by 4.5 komi. After the game, after I took a deep breath and had some post-match euphoria, I began berating myself as usual. I berated myself because of silly mistakes (allowing the opponent to atari my 2nd-line stone(s) seems to be a trait ...

Re: Disaster!
I have to agree with lovelove here -- the fundamental you need to work on is reading. You had plenty of positions which got cut to shreds, not because the shape was bad, but because you ignored or did not see an atari coming next move. Examples are moves {52,60,128,148,152,188,192}. Reading will ...

8: You MUST play B3 here. It not only competes for the corner, but it pushes him toward your pincer.
10: B4. Protect the cut with a ladder, and keep struggling for the corner.
18: H4 is a compromised stone, much too close to a stronger black group. The last thing you want to do is make it heavy ...

Ohhh... I thought that I would play a game tonight... I am pretty tired, I was rubbing deep heat on someone's back three times during the night and got up twice to get some water... Waited for the water filter to fill up and then was awake so couldn't get back to sleep...
OK so I'll post this, put ...

Re: Hi all
Thanks all for the warm welcome
I have a game posted in the review thread, although it was a pretty poor one for review. It helped me get over the nervousness though! I will play quite a few over the weekend and post one of the closest losses in the review thread too.

Re: The art of fighting without fighting
Congratulations!
The bottom left is not Rabbity Six. But White can kill. See move 182.

Re: The art of fighting without fighting
You started out playing rather fast - don't let your opponent bluff you into playing at blitz-speed when you have a huge amount of time on the clock.
I was actually worrying about how much time I had left! Black seemed to be playing much too quickly. I didn't want to get in to byo-yomi too fast ...
