Hey there, thanks for the comment/question.
I got to a point where I wasn't making any discernible progress, and kind of felt like my blog was becoming something where I'd mostly complain rather than offer any interesting insights, so I decided I'd stop writing.
I didn't want it to become one of ...

Re: When to venture online and where?
This Sensei's Library page on KGS bots might be helpful. But you could start with IdiotBot, WeakBot50k, HelloBot, and SimpleBot perhaps in that order. Mix with a lot of human opponents and by the time you are winning against SimpleBot, you can probably leave the bots behind.

Re: What was the impact of HNG on your interest in Go?
Don't feed the trolls. Hardly a troll. I genuinely don't like anime.
Although, I was exaggerating when I said it put me off the game. I talk specifically about Japanese style anime as well. Generally, I don't like the culture that surrounds anime - similar to things like JRPGs, the angsty teens ...

Re: What was the impact of HNG on your interest in Go?
The fact that a large proportion of go players were introduced to the game from anime kind of puts me off the game. The association is not one I'm sure I like.
I find this a very strange comment. Would you care to elaborate?
Not only do you not like anime (which I could understand) but you don’t ...

Re: Where did it all go wrong?
Thanks for the explanation Joaz. I was thinking that white's G5 - E10 string could maybe survive by running out to the center and reducing black influence at the same time. But it sounds like that's an unlikely scenario.

Re: Where did it all go wrong?
A beginner question here if you don't mind. I'm looking at the final board position for this game when white resigned. Is this game really beyond saving for white? Or is it considered rude for white to continue playing from a losing position since black is ranked higher?

Re: G'day L19
Thanks all. I’ll just start playing the bots and move over to humans when my playing ability is slightly less humiliating.
TheBigH – I live in Brisbane. I think I read previously that you’re from Melbourne right? Do you play in person often or do you prefer the convenience of online?

G'day L19
G'day all,
I'm a beginner from Australia. I learned of go a couple of years ago when I stumbled across Hikaru no Go. Since then I've only played a handful of 9x9 games against the computer and half of one 19x19 game against the computer (Ipad battery died before I finished). So on the surface it ...
