Re: 77th Honinbo Game 1 puzzle

There are many mistakes in your post. I am not sure I can be bothered to respond to them all.

Re: 77th Honinbo Game 1 puzzle

Consider the case of 6.5 komi (I think that's what is currrently used, but I could be wrong).

Suppose black wins by 0.5 points, and white's territory was T, with white having taken P prisoners and black 0 prisoners. (One can assume 0 black prisoners without loss of generality: black and white ...

Re: What do you do for your health?

I am lot more mindful of this than when I was young.

I became overweight when I was 28. It eventually turned out that this was a really bad idea; therefore three and half years ago, I lost about 3.5 stone (50 pounds, 22kgs). This was sufficient to reverse the deleterious impact of the excess ...

Re: DIY projects

I will use my handiwork for the first time this weekend, probably in OFD (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogof_Ffynnon_Ddu). My club has a hut in South Wales, which gives a nice, cheap way of getting to the caves.

Re: DIY projects

I am rubbish at DIY. I just drilled some holes in a helmet to mount a caving torch. It wasn't trivial, as I had to remove the inner lining before making the holes, and obviously to re-attach it to make it safe.

Amazingly, it all went well. The battery is at a very slightly jaunty angle, but that ...

Re: English translation of Shibano's Fuseki Revolution

... Well, I got off the topic of Shibano's book, but what I find the most interesting thing about it is that Shibano explains why many of the strange-looking AI moves work.

I think AI will not have really arrived until they have cracked the real AI challenge: AIs should be able to provide human ...

Re: GoQuest Go server

I think the games may be lost to posterity. (I seem to get my last records and no more.) It is typically sekis with unusual features, for example where one player has an eye and the other doesn't.

Re: GoQuest Go server

I play 9x9 on it a fair bit. I found I actually got to my rank and rating reasonably quickly (6 dan, although my rank is typically between 2100 and 2200.)

My main annoyance is that it sometimes doesn't recognise seki correctly. There are a few losses on my record that are actually wins.

Re: GERMAN interpretation of J89's intended contents

"Moment" is Newtonian speak for (essentially) the first derivative of a function. "Geometric series" is a sequence of numbers where the ratio of two consecutive terms is constant. (Hence the n-th term is c * r^n where c is the zeroth term and r is ratio.)

So the n-th term in a geometric series of ...

Re: GERMAN translation of J89's intended contents

Cassandra: You have clarified your intentions (though not J1989's still misunderstood intentions), and it seems now there is a simple fix. Just change your title: to "German interpretation of J1989's contents".

There is a distinction made by careful speakers of English, and most certainly by ...

Re: Hi

Hello!

You have a very good user name. In a random Hitchhiker's related anecdote,

42=-80,538,738,812,075,974^3+80,435,758,145,817,515^3+12,602,123,297,335,631^3

It wasn't known until 2019 that 42 could be expressed as the sum of three integer cubes.
