In the resulting joseki, incidentally, Shusaku's move 25 was labelled bad and should be the slide at 29 - but this is a point that has already been made by human commentators.

There is a commentary in INVINCIBLE that Shusaku faced it for the first time. This is wrong. He played the "bad" move 25 ...

I think there is still one bit missing. I don't know of anything showing that amateurs do study old games (versus modern ones). Certainly we are advised to time and again. But what do people really do? In my case, I think the main source of games ...

I think we can be pretty sure that they played it out to the end (at least because of the "silver tael" rule mentioned by John F elsewhere. The record books need to be rewritten ;-) .

One of the Shi Dingan - Hu Zhaolin games (1740HCEM131) may be another candidate. Moreover, the first capture comes as late as on the move 96. Shi must have earned a lot of silver coins from Ironhead Hu by this game...
