Re: Is KGS developement dead or just slow?

What I am saying is this: WMS stated many times he does not wish any helpers in KGS development. He has been repeating it for many years, and repeatedly. I just take this as my starting point - case closed.
This I know. But your "Like who?!?" sounded like there's nobody willing to help, which is ...

Re: Is KGS developement dead or just slow?

If the man in charge is really not interessted in continuing he or she might as well pass the torch. I believe there are many people that would put their heart into this server.
Like who?!?
From what I see, those who would, already do (Nova!)
I'm not sure I follow. "Since people motivated enough ...

[0:05] GregorS: as in browser version, things like javascript, cookies or whatever.

In a parallel universe, Harry would've been smart enough to realize the stupidity himself.

Maybe darWIN is secretly promoting hpmor!

Re: Help me understand why these stones are dead (9x9)

B. Starting again, if white goes at 3, then black must play at 2, but white can't play east-of-2 since that would cycle the game to the earlier position, hence black can secure it.

According to the page you linked, New Zealand rules actually do allow this. You can repeat a previous position if ...

Re: New and improved SGF viewer at Go4Go.net

The lines look too thick and distracting to me. How about changing lineWidth from 2 to 1? (You also need to add .5 to the moveTo and lineTo coordinates.)

Re: Encyclopedia of life and death-900 Elementary problems

The difficulty seems to vary from problem to problem. I went through the first 100 and I'd say some of them were at least 5 kyu. On the other hand, even the last pages have some trivial 1-movers (20+ kyu).

If some problems are too difficult, just skip them and keep going.

Re: Different UI styles possible?

Would be an interesting idea to allow local CSS style sheets to format the layout.
There are browser extensions that make it easy to add custom CSS and JavaScript, so you can already customize the UI if you want. There's of course no guarantee that your tweaks will keep working after an update ...

Re: Hat problem

My solution is here, don't read if you want to solve it yourself. No silly tricks with time delays or anything like that.

All players follow the same strategy. Their guess is determined by the 3 colors they see.

-> guess
-> no guess
-> guess
-> guess

They will win a bottle with ...

Re: Hat problem

However, the counterexample still does not get above 50%
It wasn't supposed to.

I have found a strategy that gives 10/16 = 62.5%. Edit: make that 11/16 = 68.75%.

I think it's crazy how much effort people have spent on looking for loopholes in the wording. I think the problem statement was ...

Re: Hat problem

The best one can do is 50%. If a second guesses, the chances of winning the bottle are 25%.
Nope. Here's a simple counterexample.

The bridge players agree on the following strategy:

- If you see 3 hats of the same color, guess the other color.
- If you see 2 hats of the same color, guess that ...

Re: Video of Joseph Wilk's talk about Go

At 16:10 he shows a supposedly ended position where Black can capture a single stone on the boundary of White's territory.
There is that. And there is a move worth 40 points.

To be exact, he said the players didn't believe they can score any more points, and then something weird about the ...

Re: cyndane daydreams

Some comments from a sleepless KGS 1d. I think the most important points are that 1) you played small gote endgame moves in the middle game and 2) some of your moves that were probably meant to attack either did nothing or actually helped your opponent.

31: This is a small endgame play and should ...

Has anyone purchased from Europe? Do they offer a choice of shipping methods? Are the shipping costs reasonable? The website won't calculate shipping without first placing an order.

Re: Weightlifting for Go players

I've spent a fair amount of time practising both of these challenges for about a month, and I don't think it has helped my Go at all. It can be pretty fun, but you might just as well memorize random numbers. Solving normal tsumegos is better "weightlifting".
