Re: Novice critique

Just re-played the game on my board, paying attention to some of the variations you suggested. It was very helpful

A related question : For understanding shape in a way useful for games, are Tsumego problems the best way ? Or already at my level should I slowly pick up a set of good/bad shapes ...

Re: Guo Juan's lectures and study plan

I would add a word of caution based on my own predilections. It is easy to get so immersed in studying the game that one ends up not playing enough games. Guo insists on I think at least ten games between lessons in the step by step course.

So so true ! I already have that problem

In my case ...

CCTV Documentary on Go & Chinese Chess

Not sure if this has been posted before.

I just came across this nice documentary on Go and Chinese chess (originally aired on CCTV) :

The other episodes in " Ancient Chinese Games" look interesting as well

Re: Guo Juan's lectures and study plan

Thanks, I'll try some of these suggestions out.

Any comments on the step-by-step course ? I'll be "done" with the basic course this week and am tempted to jump into step-by-step course....

Would opening theory training, middle game training or shapes be a better next step ?

Re: Sen:te Goban update ?

Thanks for the replies.

Sen:te Goban is dead as a project I think. Your main options on OSX are the Java based Internet Go clients like the KGS one for SGF viewing and editing. SmartGo has been "coming to the Mac" for a fair bit now I think but no announcement has been made about it since March of ...

Welcome to Go. Do you know approximately how many games you have finished so far (total, since you started Go) ?

Hi Ed. Thank you for your comments; Going through them now...

I have played maybe around 15-20 (?) games so far.

Unfortunately, due to my weekday schedule, my go activities have ...

Novice critique

This is an unrated game that I played recently on KGS.

I would very much appreciate any suggestions, constructive criticism and pointers on where/how I can improve any aspects of my game play.

Guo Juan's lectures and study plan

I just got the annual membership at Guo Juan's internet Go school and have been working through the basic course.

There is a nice study-guide to orient oneself depending on your level, but I was wondering if any of you had recommendations on a study path or lectures that I should particularly ...

Sen:te Goban update ?

I love this program and is currently my go-to SGF viewer on the mac.

Anyone know what the status of Sen:te Goban is ? It hasn't been updated since 2007 , and whenever I try to use any of the editing tools it crashes on my Mac OS X ML.

Related question : Are there any other good Mac OS X based go ...

Re: Yunzi Stones With Kaya Board - bad idea?

I like nice things too, but it seems to me that scratches and dents are a natural consequence of the energetic struggles fought on our 19x19 battlefields. If you want to keep your board and/or stones pristine, then box them up and put them in a safe place where nothing can happen to them. But if ...
