Re: Gaming tokens from Egypt predating go

Well, the claim that Go has is that it's the oldest game still played in its original form, or at least only a minor deviation. Even the Egyptian game Senet predates Go, but we have no idea how it's played other than that it's some sort of racing game.

Re: Floor goban wood preference?

I believe your single deciding factor will turn out to be your budget. Are you going to spend $100,000 , $10,000 or $1,000?
If you're thinking about spending $100,000 on a goban, I'd seriously recommend taking a deep breath and saying to yourself out loud "I'm about to spend $100,000 on a piece of ...

Cedar is very soft, so the board will dent very easily. Just a note.

Re: Tygem and the AGA's prosystem

But I'm not surprised either. The event never drew large crowds. Not even medium or even small crowds. No crowds at all. (I don't think there was ever more than 20 people logged on watching a game at any one time throughout the week, and most of those were probably at the event already). I think ...

Re: Are you in favor of adding a NOVA subforum?

I'd like to point out that numerically the kaya subforum has more posts than the tygem and wbaduk subforums combined. So it's not exactly an obscure forgotten subforum which needs pruning.
That could be attributed to the fact that the subforum has followed Kaya throughout its life cycle, so ...

That's where I was going. If NOVA isn't getting its own subforum, then the Kaya subforum should go or get merged.

Are you in favor of adding a NOVA subforum?

Honestly, I would just like some clarity on it and figured a poll would be the best way.

If you vote, please state your reasoning why you voted as you did.

I'm in favor of it, because I believe it has just as valid of a reason for existing as the Kaya subforum does.

Happy voting!

Re: Unsolved Problems in Go

Any unsolved problem is only because ... the problem is too open ended (IE that igohatsu book having a 100+ move variation, cant be sure of answer).
Igo Hatsuyoron 120 is not "too open ended" at all.

The solution consist of three phases.

Phase 1 (approximately 70 moves long) is preparing the ...

Re: So, what's your asymptote?

However if your teacher taught you the wrong way to do fractions, you might have some problems. There's a 10k I see teaching on KGS a bit, and it can make me cringe.
There is that. Most people equally well reach an "asymptote" in their mathematical education, though all I really mean by that is ...

Re: L19 Go Club/League/Whatever

The West Michigan Go Club uses this system:

First, players try to determine their starting handicap against each other. They play an even game and then estimate based on the outcome (usually a stone for every 10 points lost by - sometimes an additional game is played at an intermediate handicap to ...
