Still lost on 8 stones

Last weekend I played this game against my teacher and I will say that she is very strong. I took 8 stones and still lost by 38.5 points, so I did make some grave mistakes. Point them out without mercy and much obliged in advance for your kind commentary.

Note: I have difficulty uploading the SGF ...

Re: The traditional name "Taichi" and the false name "tengen

The national culture is the world culture. My goal is to restore the traditional Chinese Weiqi culture so as to distinguish it from the go culture transformed in Japan. This is the only way for the revival of Chinese Weiqi culture.

As for your choice, it is of course freedom. I think this is a ...

Possible low-kyu sandbagger

I played a couple of games against this player on OGS and I lost rather terribly. I looked at the profile and didn't see any lost games. As well, the strongest challenging player see there is 6k. Any chance it might be a sandbagger's account?

You can get access to the Korean Problem Academy here. (Registration required for full access.)

In your case I would replay pro game records and you can access the PDFs here.

A narrow loss on 13x13

Here is a game in which I lost by 1.5 points on 13x13. I got a bit too enthusiastic with sacrificing stones.

Re: A series of exquisite disasters on 13x13

You opening looks a bit slow. You tend to add stones to a region where you already have stones, while large areas are still open or while a corner hasn't been approached yet. A general principle is that, at the beginning of the game, it is better to start a new group rather than add a stone to an ...

I enjoyed his review of a Guo Bailing game. We should review Old Chinese games more.

I also disagree that Western teachers are better. I don't remember being taught mindfulness at school. Now on YouTube I find many trainers of the body of Chinese youtubers who really explain much better. I find that mindfulness is increased after a period of effortful study. One is able to ...

A series of exquisite disasters on 13x13

Today I played a total of 8 games against the following opponent on OGS. All the games are 13x13. I was brutalized in this series ^^; Though, today I'll submit just 3 of them. I have some ways to go before getting to 4k.

Love how polite and friendly you are playing online. Even when the guy is not answering. Kudos to you and good attitude to be grateful to play a stronger player instead of being mad by being "cheated" by a sandbagger. Keep that positive attitude :) To be honest, I was very upset at having lost to a ...

I got a look and he hasn't been there long. Might be around 4k in strength since 1 loss against a 5k is recorded.

A sound spanking

I got creamed on this one. I doubt my opponent is 7k. Or maybe he is actually 7k and my Go skills have become very weak ^^; He plays for influence and I don't know much about playing against influence. As well, my opponent used forceful plays and I should learn how to stay away from early fights ...

Re: Children's pseudo-go

This reminds me a bit of surround and counter-surround. Though, in Go the monster materializes from the vapor. At first one sees only the vapor, but then clumps of liquid appear and before you know it the monster has taken on a solid form.

Or is it like making cheese? Start with the milk and after ...

Re: Teaching methods and professional associations

My apologies for responding to this thread over a year after the last post.

Perhaps we can compare Eastern pedagogy and Western pedagogy. From what I understand, the former is basically a lot of self-study and then getting instruction from the teacher to make sense of it all, while the latter is ...
