Re: Ishi press International / Trump / Hitler

Actually I just read that article properly..

Sam Sloan, head of Ishi Press International’s US arm, told the Huffington Post that when My New Order was published in 1941, there was “nothing on the back cover … so I decided to use that empty space for an advertisement for the book”!

Thats the same ...

Re: Help me with calculating/avoiding border taxes with Kuro

I agree with above.. don't think of it as a strictly negative / fiscal austerity point of view. Delay the purchase for a year or so and reward yourself w/ a purchase that is say 20% better than what you can afford now. This way you both save money and get yourself even nicer w/ some of the money you ...

Re: Go curriculum book series

Ahh I see, so the non-review level up's have enough "theory" to walk you through a series of available approaches for you get it and said theory is generalizable enough to try all the problems at hand. The R1 R2 review books are supposed to be just a problem book reviewing the level ups so the ...

Re: Go curriculum book series

The development of level up is so systematic that the "why" is obvious .. I am at level R2 ( so that is book 12 I guess ) and I would say it approaches somewhere btwn graded go problems 2 ( so progress is very slow ). That said what is great about this series is the systematic nature of the approach ...

Re: Crazy Stone Deep Learning first impressions

Out of curiosity.. I have been playing deep learning / crazy stone on my computer and while I do enjoy playing this on a proper screen rather than an ipad/iphone I have to admit I miss the medals / ranking - progress that the ipad / phone apps have to get a sense of accomplishment and improvement ...

Re: Level Up/Jump Level Up vs Graded Go Problems for Beginne

I have the whole series and love them to be honest.. I've found nothing this systematic and thorough.. but in truly incremental steps so small you absolutely will get it by the time you are done.

Re: Best book(s) for a total beginner?

I would recommend either the level up series or the speed baduk series. They are systematic and pedagogical in a way no other book series really is.

Re: Recommendations for first app for a child

Have you seen gochild? It was originally written by someone for their child but represents I think a great pedagogical approach to problem solving:

Re: Why Go Theory Books

Magic of go theory? Many players, especially kyu players, greatly underestimate the amount of necessary go theory for becoming a strong player. (For this assuming one would be learning from explicit go theory.) It is in the order of thousands (or maybe even a few dozens of thousands) of principles ...

Re: Boardz - players list

So I am bloosqr1 on both dgs and boardz.. I find the boardz app really buggy. It makes my iphone4 and iPad (one generation back) flicker, and continuously crashes when trying to make a move. That said as far as I can tell its the only turn by turn ios client that has notifications..

Yes,
And bloosqr, stop responding in terms of "real" rank. You should have noticed that I was specifying the rank basis. That's how we should be talking, simply saying what we mean when we give a number. It's not that I consider KGS "real" rank but what you are doing is like insisting that ...

Re: Crazy Stone for iOS

Yes, it is very strong on a small board. I can hardly win one out of ten and I'm 3k. On 19x19 it's weaker than real 6 kyu (by "real" I mean European ranking, to be more precise: Polish ranking).

If you have played a lot of 9x9 games already - move to 13x13.

THis is a fascinating thread and ...

Re: Crazy Stone for iOS

The IOS version crazy stone is pretty weak

Not on 9x9 board. Can beat real 3 dan easly.

Wait really? One of my theories of why I was a really bad player is for the life of me I can't beat crazystone w/ a 2 stone handicap at its highest strength ..(I get the 2 stones).. This makes me not feel as ...
