Re: Go-position for a CGT value?
Thank you, Bill, I see where my understanding was not right. I've still to study for myself what all the differences exactly means in all points, but knowing what to look for will make it much easier for me - well, at least I think so at the moment

Re: Go-position for a CGT value?
By reverse values I take it you mean the negatives of the values.
Yes, that's what I meant. Using the word "reverse" instead of "negativ" was a bad choice, because "reverse" already has another meaning in this domain.
On Numbers and Games , Winning Ways , and Mathematical Go all address how ...

Re: Go-position for a CGT value?
Oh yes, thank you! I somehow expected it would be something more complicated than an Up (+) Star and an Up. The nice thing about this is that I don't need an additional theory to cover it :)
While it is quite easy to verify these values by simply playing it out (with adding the reverse values), I ...

Go-position for a CGT value?
When considering a CGT game like
X = { 0 , * | 0 }
I have two questions: Does this games X have a special name (or value) in CGT?
And is there a Go-position (in chilled Go) that is equivalent to game X?
And the same questions for a simular game like
Y = { 0 , * | * }
X = { 0 , * | 0 }

Re: Ikeda's superko?
I think this version of superko would only shift the points, when the players need to make a ko-threat, so this should be still equivalent to a simple ko.redreoicy wrote:This superko rule breaks eternal life, which normally becomes equivalent to a ko under superko rules.

Re: Ikeda's superko?
I wouldn't call this rule more complicatet.
You need only to check for super-ko, when you make a capturing move. If a move is a capturing move is trivial to check. So you will have either less work (for the moves that doesn't capture anything) or you will have to do the same work (for the capturing ...

Re: Ikeda's superko?
I never thought of applying superko to capturing moves only, but it does seem interesting, even if it's not what Ikeda meant. For one, it blends in nicely with the ko rule and makes illegal moves a bit easier to spot. I haven't seen this rule discussed anywhere, though.
Ing ko rules work that way ...

Re: Review: The Endgame (Ogawa / Davies)
Let me give an simple example myself.
suppose there are three plays left: A = 4 points gote, B = 5 points gote, C = 3 points reverse sente. The miai-values are A = 2, B = 2.5, C = 3.
Where do you play?
1) If I start with B, then the opponent will play C in sente and take also A.

Re: Review: The Endgame (Ogawa / Davies)
Here is a simple example. Suppose that such a player accurately counts the game and finds that White is 3.5 points behind. He also sees that there are only a few gote left on the board, the largest of which is worth 5 pts. (by deiri counting, which he thinks is the only kind). He erroneously ...

Re: Review: The Endgame (Ogawa / Davies)
Saying Robert doesn't understand the theory is a very bold statement.
Nevertheless it's true when it comes to applying the deri-method. (I also said "it seems"... I have no idea if he doesn't understand it or if he just pretend so.) Else there wouldn't be such statements like
Funnily, the book ...

Re: Review: The Endgame (Ogawa / Davies)
I have read this book at least five times and I think it is a good book. Everyone, who has not studied endgame so far, will surely profit from reading this book. This is a go-book and no math-book (like the book Robert Jasiek just wrote), but it teachs all the math you need to evaluate the positions ...

Re: Superko differences
Does anyone know of any situation whose result differs between positional superko and situational superko?

Re: Losing an account - inactivity
It definitely will - it's happened to me.
Ok, then I was wrong. I have just checked my IGS games and the longest break between two games there was 9 months and 2 days.
So I would bet the account will not be deleted before 1 year inactivity.

I could be wrong, but from my experience I think an IGS account will not be deleted for inactivity.
