Thank you all for your hard work and long life to the nineteen.
I blame the outage for my bad tournament results this weekend.

Re: Patting the raccoon's belly
Without the tesuji white plays both hanes, then connects the outside one: black now needs to play in the corner to stop those 4 stones dying, and then white cuts and black can't keep it all together.
(Edit: actually can he hane outside? the idea is white wants to cut on the outside and ladder the 3 ...

Re: Patting the raccoon's belly
But I'm not seeing why the tesuji is useful in any of the other examples. For example, in this trick play , why can't black block white in a "normal" manner in the fourth diagram by playing move below (at b7) and move above (at b2), all on the second line? Why does the stronger reply require a ...

The [chinese] words might even be easier for people to pronounce than the Japanese.
My experience is that when speaking with Japanese people, "igo" is usually understood immediatly. With Korean people, "baduk" sometimes need two tries and (iirc) is better understood if you frankly pronounce ...

Lol.
Are they going to make a one-run print specially for you, or (more reasonably) send a high-priced hitman disguised as an old Korean to rob it from a go club's library?

I used it a lot when I was 1-2k and I was hovering between 6d and 7d. I was taking my time on each problem. (also, it was a while ago)

Re: Human level far below the optimum
The argument was the level is nowhere close to optimal play.
In fact the top players and top neural networks are quite close to optimal play.
Do you have any arguments going in this direction? Without any arguments, I would find the opposite much more believable. Optimal play is a fantastic ...

Here's my try. I'm not 100% sure it's right, and I doubt I'd find it in a game without 5+ minutes of focused concentration.
This is correct - at least, this is what I read.

Re: How far are we from stockfish version of go?
My point is that I believe that the idea that we actually understand our moves, in the sense that our (inner) explanation of why we play it corresponds to the reason why it is good, is largely an illusion (though a useful one). Bill Spight makes a similar point.

Re: How far are we from stockfish version of go?
To summarize my opinion: a suboptimal move played with an understanding of its meaning is superior to an optimal move that you don't understand .
I'm pretty late to the party, but while I get your point to some extent, your argument does look a lot like this webcomic:

Re: OGS Game review - 16k
Some comments. You had some good basics and an overall sound opening. You lost from playing too submissively, missing some severe play and regularly missing the biggest point on the board in the middlegame and early endgame.

Re: Essential Android Go Apps
The one I liked best was Wbaduk, but since its problem section broke it seems like abandonware.
Seconded on both points. The interface didn't work at all on some problems, but the variety, quality, and distribution of difficulty of the problems used to be the best among free applications (and the ...

This is irrelevant to the final result but at move 151 in the first game, White can play and live.

Mv 62 - When I made that jump I imagined something like this, without the bend at N2 . You are probably right though.
Just to clarify my point: first, I'm not certain my alternative is better, I just want to stress that you should keep the connection under in mind when you play this way. Black ...

54 - a pass move
Wow, completely missed that - thanks.
Well, now I have another look at it, it's not a pass move at all. Imagine Black playing where White played
