Hi Rickyyp,
I suggest driving across the Hudson to New Paltz, NY and stopping by Gomen Kudasai (m). It's a homestyle Japanese noodle house run by a husband and wife, and the husband (Kazuma) is around 12 kyu. He keeps a board and stones in the restaurant and loves to play with customers. Also, the ...

Re: My Journey to 1Dan... Will I ever get there
This may be counter-intuitive, but I think your focus on rank is interfering with your progress. There is no shortcut for improvement, and if you get frustrated by how long it's taking you to rank up, that frustration will negatively affect your play. Consider Ryan Li's recent win over Chen Yaoye ...

Re: AlphaGo Surge
The maximum number of online users per day on OGS has literally *doubled* from pre-AlphaGo. We were hitting peaks of 1500 per day and now it's 3000 per day. This whole phenomenon has been terrific for the Go community - it's bigger than Hikaru no Go.

Re: Baduk in Korea?
From my experience I don't see that passion from common people, while the whole Alphago, Lee Sedol match is generating interest I don't see a whole bunch of people starting to play go.

The results of OGS's go server survey so far also provide some data on how rankings are distributed across different servers:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-FQV9CTPC/
For example, if you're a KGS 9k, you're behind about 75% of KGS players.

It turns out his result was good enough to qualify him due to his status as a foreign national.

Re: Affordable thick glass stones from Japan?
Hi everyone,
I am located in Germany.
I have some korean glass Stones 11mm from Hebsacker, they are okay, but not very uniform and also do have some minor flaws.
Are japanese glass Stones really better? where can I order affordable thick (10,4mm or 11mm) stones, made in Japan, that are more ...

If someone doesn't chat at all, it's worth giving them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they don't speak even rudimentary English. Maybe they didn't notice the chat window. Heck, maybe they're banned from chatting. There's no reason to assume they intended to be rude.
On the other hand, if they ...

Re: Go Server Ranking Survey
Even if you only play actively on one server, please take the survey and enter your rank on that server. The information is still useful (for seeing how the players on that server are distributed by rank, for example). But if you don't have an established rank anywhere, there's not much point to ...

Re: Got kicked from OGS because I accepted game offers
I don't have the chat log, but I looked at your profile to see the game history. It looks like a 15k had posted an open challenge for a 13x13 game, which you accepted, and he then canceled the game and posted the challenge again. This process was repeated seven times. I would surmise the following ...
