Re: GoGameGuru

Is there any update on this? I've been out of touch for a while and just noticed they haven't had any news for several months now.

Re: using bots for practice?

First let me say: DO NOT PLAY BOTS if you want to get stronger! The reason is that bots tend to play a lot of bad/useless moves. For a beginner it makes it very confusing which moves the bot makes are genuinely good and which are just flaws with its programming. This among other things will cause ...

Re: What ever happened to Igolocal?

I was recently looking for this site! It was a really great idea... It's unfortunate that sometimes these things don't/can't always work out. They are incredibly valuable to the Go community but we aren't as big and prominent as we would like to be (in my opinion anyways).

Is it possible that he ...

using bots for practice?

I searched for information on this but the forum seems to have a bunch of posts about AlphaGo drowning out any useful posts.

I'm trying to increase a few stones to be able to play even games against some of the local players. I'm studying books, working problems, and playing games in person.

I ...

I like http://gowizardry.com in addition to the other mentioned resources.

Re: What ever happened to Igolocal?

PromoteGo and IgoLocal were different. Too bad they both folded.

From my point of view, IgoLocal's main feature was showing locations of clubs and players on maps, while the main feature of PromoteGo was to help players schedule games in places where those games could be seen by others.

I liked ...

This doesn't say much. Are these easy or very hard tsumegos? What do you mean by "tackle"?

Graded go problems for Beginners is a good starting point if you want to practice in this way.

I mean to sit down and actually work them out, thinking about each move rather than speeding through ...

If you have SmartGo for iOS,
it's very easy to record your game as you play.
Good luck. :)

I have Gobandroid on my Android device, I hadn't considered using it. That might be better than pencil and paper.

Thanks for the tip!

efficient paths for learning to increase a few stones

Greetings, L19!

It seems that Go has crept into my life again, this time due to a seemingly random influx of local players. Given that development, I've been trying to improve my skill a bit so I can play more even games with the locals. With that in mind, I'd like to focus on three things and I ...

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings

Not sure how mainstream it is but about half an hour into Mobile Suit Gundam Origin 1: Blue Casval, there is a character playing what looks like a computer version of Go with a regular goban as the interface.

I play other games as well but I've found that while Go is simple on the surface, there is a lot to learn beyond the basic techniques. I also like that equipment costs can be very minimal. There's always ...

anyone in san jose with a goban this week?

I'll be in San Jose on business this week and I'll be kind of restricted as to where I can travel. Anyone in the area with a goban or are there any places to play? I'd love to get a game in.

Thanks!
