New historical mention of go?

The book is Korean Games With Notes On The Corresponding Games Of China, and if you want to read along you can download it for free (legally) from here .

It's pretty old, making reference to "the current Hon In Bo, Do Saku." (It mentions Japan as well as Korea and China) and most of the book is ...

Moving to Australia

Hey Aussies! I'm moving to Perth indefinitely, anyone on the forum from there? Also, any advice for moving to Australia? Mostly I am buying suncream and trying to memorise what venomous spiders look like. :D

Re: Piracy in the Go industry.

Sorry, I know this kind of opinion will be wildly unpopular here. Perhaps even get me banned from the forum.
Don't be a matyr Bartleby, of course it won't get you banned.

While in theory I like the "information want to be free" side of the argument, in practice I don't think it can support ...

Re: anyone care to comment?

Hrm, I didn't really like b4, although it ended up alright for you. Taking the corner is a bit small given w got the influence on the right. Did you consider D9 or D10? I feel you only did so well in the middle because w was silly enough to play J3, which looks awful to me. Taking the corner and ...

Re: Tesuji's in games

If you've only read 2 chapters it's no surprise. It will take a while longer to really "get" tesuji and start recognising them, keep going and don't worry about it! L+D and Tesuji are the basis of having a really strong game.

Re: About Go Seigen

Go Seigen is amazing, beyond a doubt. I've several times seen warnings that studying him may not be the best for amateurs - simply because we won't understand exactly what is going on and may come to the wrong conclusions. His book "Way of play for the 21st century" is one of my favorites though ...

Re: Losing feels horrible; winning is just okay

I always have a stable rank.

More seriously, I think a lot of this "losing is horrible; winning is just okay" attitude is due to a lack of respect for your opponent. It's understandable, most of the people we play on the internet we never meet and will never play again, but once we notice we can ...

Re: Favorite Go apps for iTouch

I just have smart go pro on my itouch. I finished all the problems a while ago and have only played the program a few times, but the game database is amazing. I'm currently working my way through the games of Takemiya Masaki, and I've only just got up to 1985!

Re: Sanrensei Questions

I've noticed that almost every sanrensei game played by pros they pincer one approach and take the corner on the second. I guess this is for balance and not having all of ones eggs in one big moyo basket, but does anyone have any other thoughts on that? Uberdude's top game in the link suggests that ...

Hi hi! I strongly recommend getting the chance to play on a real board as soon as you can, not because it's "better", just because it's fun!

Re: Keeping Busy

I've been thinking about this for a while: I've been basically unemployed for a while now, and some days I feel fantastic, some days I feel useless. The thing that has been triggering the less-happy thoughts seems to be unproductive days - I'm never bored because I have the internet, but if I spend ...
