Re: Looking for something challenging? Try Go
They go on to say that, of course, across the world it's called "go" - good thing it's not called weichi or baduk! (Their words, not mine.)
I like the name go and it is easy to pronounce, but it's got to be one of the least Googleable names ever, so it's good to have the other names in there for ...

Silence, but if I did listen to anything it would be the Hikaru no Go soundtrack.

Re: What is your undo policy?
I'll give an undo as long as I haven't gone yet; I figure then it's like DGS where you can play a move and then hit cancel as many times as you like before submitting it. If I've gone already, then no undo. If something is an obvious misclick then I'll pause to give them time to request undo. On the ...

The Seattle Go Center is one of very few facilities fully dedicated to go outside of the three major go-playing countries. You're really doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out.

Re: Electronic go board
I want to make a smartphone app like this as a fun side project, but I won't have time for a few months, so I don't know when/if I'll get around to it.

Re: The future of KGS
I'd like to see the HTML 5 version working in every browser and also an app for all platforms. Java used to be the best for cross platform when it was just computers. Nowadays it's very limiting since all the new devices don't run java programs. The Android app is a start, but that doesn't help you ...

Re: Why did you start playing Go?
I had a friend who would download anime fansubs, and one day in 2002 he showed me Hikaru no Go as a joke because he thought it was funny that it was being all dramatic about a board game. So did I, actually; the show portrayed with dramatic excitement what looked to us as if stones being put ...

Re: become a dan player or die
I don't think having a particular rank would make me happy, but when I make noticeable progress I get excited. When I learn a new concept or really see the importance of one I didn't quite get before, or when I read something I knew would have made my head hurt previously, it feels good. Seeing the ...

Re: Considering purchasing crazy stone 2013
Regarding upgrading, I asked about upgrading to 2013 from 2012 and they said this:
"Thank you for your inquiry.
This e-mail is from UNBALANCE customer support.
We have released Crazy Stone 2013 as a new program,
and you will not be able to upgrade 2012 to this new program.
Sorry about this, but ...

Re: Android vs iphone for Go apps and general SP advice for
SmartGo books for iOS is such an important app for studying go that I bought an iPad just to use it. I already had a tablet that I prefer and use for everything else (surface 2 pro), but there's nothing even close to that app for studying. It's the Kindle of go books, only it provides a lot of extra ...

Re: Why buy slate and shell?
Slate and shell are just nicer materials, not really for any functional reason. Glass feels cheap, maybe because it's the same material that people are always throwing away after drinking the contents. Slate and shell feel more like real materials instead of manufactured cheap things, if that makes ...
