GnuGo 3.9.1 was released a short time ago. I haven't measured so see if there is a noticeable difference, but it's quite likely. Also version 3.8, which has been out for some time, is quite a bit stronger than 3.7 from what I've heard.
Also, MC programs would be "win by a small margin or resign ...

Re: Computer are strong?!
This is very interesting. As the playouts is presumably the primary factor, a bigger board should have the curve arrive later due to the additional time to complete the payouts presumably? If so, how much longer does a 19x19 playout take than a 9x9 playout, having averaged out including overhead ...

Re: Computer are strong?!
I think you are considering too small a portion of the curve.
Consider the shape of the curve performance vs time (number of algorithm steps) over a large range. What I am saying is that below some number of steps (too little time) won't be other than random moves. In this region the curve is very ...

GoGui seems to do exactly what you want. Eg: "gogui -move 5 game.sgf". See: http://gogui.sourceforge.net/
Sorry for the late reply BTW.

Re: Computer are strong?!
Once you place the constraint at "reasonable thinking time" (e.g. practical for usual tournament/casual play with human opponent), it does not really matter that much. It is a significant factor, but not drastically so; you may gain or lose two or three ranks but you will remain in the same ...

Thanx. Glad it worked for you
Actually my app does use a monospace font (or very close to one). But why would that make a difference? You do mean a fixed-width font, correct?
My next phone will almost definitely be Android, but for now I'm quite happy with my 5230.

Re: In praise of the League
I just joined the league this month. It has only been a few days, but I'm already happy I joined. I'm fortunate in that I can get games like this with stronger players at my local club where we also often review afterwards. However, my local club only meets once a week so this is a way I can get ...

Re: Where is OGS??
For 1/ we were thinking of changing just the servers. However, the second point convinced us to move to a new hosters. However, this
is not doable in 5 seconds. This was decided a long time ago (if you'd take a 5 minutes to browse the related threads in OGS forums, you
would have known). However ...

TouchClock
Recently I developed a cellphone app for J2ME phones with touch screens. I am aware that there is already a very similar app for chess ( like this ), but it doesn't work so well if you want any Go overtime setting. I am also aware that there is an app for Android and probably also for the iPhone ...
