Re: KGS vs. EGF rank
Yeah, I don't bring up my rating in the EGF for just this reason, I played 2 games against EGF 4d's and one against an EGF 3d and didn't lose (I lost to a Canadian player who also didn't have a fixed EGF rank, hence the tiny movement). The last game was against an EGF 1d I think?

Re: Perception of shapes.
Really cool idea Solomon!
For me, this "experiment" was all about the order of moves. It's not difficult at all to create countless of different plausible shapes when you get 10-30 stones to do whatever you want with, the challenge lies within making a sequence that seems "almost" logical.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts.
I doubt the paring was fixed. At (m) we can see that the parings was made through lottery with the players present. Or it might have been so that Korean players can only draw Chinese, we have no clue however if that is the case, the players were probably informed about it.
However, if we want to ...

Let's see...I've played this game for about 6.5 years. I've been playing in the TGC and the SGC for about 5 of those 6.5 years, or 260 weeks. I go to both often, but not consistently every week, so I'd say around 170 of those 260 weeks were weeks where I went to both Go clubs. I play about ...

Re: Avalanche variation
Hi Fredrik
In your first diagram, I would be extremely happy as White to trade "b" for a forced inside capture by Black, resulting in the basic variation you showed earlier on. The acquired influence to me is superior to Black's territory, even if this was White's corner to start with, a remaining ...

Re: Avalanche variation
I agree that it's not the most common joseki, as there are some slight deviations. However I did not want to add to anymore confusion as I think the result in the game was equal.
But as you bring it up John, I would be happy to show the small differences between the josekis for the ones that are ...

I'm really confused here.
I don't think you all realize that you are basically discussing one of the most basic joseki after black turn at S5.

Re: Need help attacking
As mentioned above, I'm in favor of making stones strong first, then attacking. I think that white stones on the side have plenty of running room, but it is the white stones in the upper right corner that look iffy. So my first inclination would be to reinforce them.

Hey guys, I just bought SC2 a few days ago and starting to learn out.
