Looking for a library of ancient games

I'd like to find a place where I can download some of the oldest Go games that we have recorded. I'm interested in studying different styles of play from different time periods. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Re: Is there a Go server that doesn't require Java?

The only place I ever play is OGS at online-go.com. its a great server that requires nothing like that.

Re: My Approach to Teaching Go

The whole point of what I'm doing here Bill is to avoid throwing the concept of territory at a student during their earliest exposure to the game. And doing this in such a way as to get to avoid saying "this is a game kinda' like Go" such as is done with Atari-Go.

Re: My Approach to Teaching Go

Maybe that will work if the students are cloistered until they are playing regular go. But if they try to play against other people before then, who knows what will happen.

By the end of my teaching session, after learning to employ the territory scoring method, they are playing regular Go ...

Re: My Approach to Teaching Go

On the contrary, the technical differences found between my method and the popular understanding of the rules would never be considered until that player had been been playing for some time and gained much more experience. At which point, I think they would easily understand that the route I took ...

At this point, it basically is. However a new comer isn't thinking about such questions and therefore I am not raising them.

If you want to include passing in the rule set then you simply say that the winner is the one to capture the most stones.

My Approach to Teaching Go

So I've continually revised, revised and revised my approach to teaching newcomers to play Go; the aim always being to make it as simple and intuitive as possible (possibly not the right word, I just mean where the student doesn't have to work on grasping new concepts, it just kinda' makes sense ...

Re: A Study in the Fundamentals

I guess a good thing to start with in studying fundamentals is to pin down what they are. I consider a fundamental concept to be one that doesn't require much (if any) contemplation. When learning to drive a car, one will learn fundamentals such as 'stay in your lane' and 'don't run stop signs'. Now ...

A Study in the Fundamentals

So I have an online friend from one of my servers that I used to play a lot when we were both around 10 kyu. However, since then he has progressed significantly faster than me and is now a 2 dan. So I asked him the other day what he thought was biggest and most common kyu-syndrome as its said. I ...

Re: Saint Ravitt vs Darev

Rev and I have agreed in a private message for this game to be "open-book" if you will meaning that we are sharing comments. The only purpose for making our comments hidden is so that we can make our moves before seeing our opponent's last comment.
