Re: Where to get lessons query.

For paid lessons, I'd recommend Tsurukame as a great teacher. I'm also in the Korean Insei League breakfast runs and in terms of money paid vs help received, it's unbeatable as long as you are pretty active in your league.

Re: World Cup 2010

Oh and here are my bets for today:
Germany vs. Australia => 2:0 (well I cant tip something else otherwise my sister who stands right behind me right now would kill me)

If you would have said 4:0, I would have accused you of insulting the Oz team. I feel a bit bad for them, seems unlikely that ...

Re: Roguelikes

DoomRL is pretty fun, though it can get annoying pretty quickly with how crashy it is.

The virtues of Dwarf Fortress cannot be extolled enough. Any game that produces something such as meatgodding cannot be ignored.

Re: My lunch today - 06/08/2010

It was delicious pizza slices from a very nice Mom & Pop pizzeria called "Earth's Crust Pizzeria" in Belgrade, MT. It cost me $7.99 including a fountain drink. I enjoyed, what they call, the Panther Pie -- which is a meat lovers pizza with: pepperoni, Canadian bacon, bacon, and sausage (plus a few ...

After today, I could kiss Robert Green. Everyone cheering for the USA owes him a beer.

In your example, it sounds like you traded your group for some bad aji and a time shortage. Time management is a big part of this game, after all...

Re: Multi task when playing on internet?

Time controls are the factor here which makes it a non-issue, I think. I prefer good games, but if my focused play versus someone else's unfocused play makes an even game, it just means I'm playing someone stronger than me anyway.

However, for a no-time-limits game (IE a lesson), I expect there to ...

Re: Does go make you smarter?

I have definitely noticed an increased aptitude in other areas of my life, as well as a stronger ability to focus. Correlation for the former, but almost certainly causation as go study has effected a lot more patience and attention to detail in me.

Re: How many accounts do you have?

I have one account on IGS,KGS,Oro,Tygem. I have had an IGS account in the past which is at 9k and I'm too lazy to play and increase the rank. I have an account on KGS solely to play teaching games with weaker players.

Re: Play with a fan?

No fans, I used to fiddle with a puzzle box during games in order to keep my hands off of my mouse/out of the bowl of stones. It worked. I recall reading about Cho Chikun having a penchant for fiddling with matchsticks during a game.

Re: Roguelikes

I've never ascended. I did find out the hard way that you can wish for (a cheap knockoff of) the amulet, though. I have yet to be spoiled and I hope I'll be able to ascend without spoilers.

My roguelike crack, however, is Larn. That was my second roguelike, from back when it shipped with NetBSD ...

Re: Strength or Looking Strong?

Appearances notwithstanding, the choice is easy. "Would you prefer to be strong, or weak?" is the important question here. The secondary question of "How do you want others to see you" is fairly inconsequential. If people see you as weak, that doesn't matter much, if you're strong. I suppose ...

Re: Can you be a pro?

When I get into something, I jump in headfirst. I never had delusions about becoming pro, but I wanted (and indeed do still want) to be as strong as possible. To this end, I spend a few hours a day studying and struggling to become better. No matter how hard I work and how far I climb, I won't be ...
