Re: What's the strongest reply to the 3-4 opening in 9x9 Go?
To be fair, if you asked a chess player something like "If white opens 1.e4, what is black's best response?", he'd probably also tell you there is no single best answer, but that there are at least 10 different moves that are all viable responses. At least 10? Nah. Against 1.e4, there are 2 ...

Re: What's the strongest reply to the 3-4 opening in 9x9 Go?
Yes! In chess I'm around 1900 Elo, but in Go I'm merely around 10 kyu.
And I'm also a backgammon player.
But what does it have to do with the 3-4 opening?

What's the strongest reply to the 3-4 opening in 9x9 Go?
Hello.
9x9 Go here. Black opens on the 3-4 point, possibly one of the strongest first move.

Mathematical definition of âunconditionally alive groupâ
Hello.
I have tried to formalize a simple mathematical definition of the term “unconditionally alive group”, as well as of the terms “eye”, “false eye” and “real eye”.
An unconditionally alive group is a group such that if the player of the same color as the group passes for an infinite number of ...

Re: If God played Go, where would He play Black's first move
I would like some answers for this question which I posted on page 2 please:
What about on a 9x9 board? Where would God play Black's first move?
Are we 100% sure that tengen is the best first move on a 9x9 board? ("best move" meaning the move which leads to the greatest winning margin if both ...

Re: Crazy 9x9 game
Thank you.
Actually for the opening I meant to sacrifice those two stones, but now I realize that it was surely a bad idea.
For move 71, my idea was that it was threatening G6 which would disconnect White's two groups and threaten to capture White's group at the top right. And I thought that if I ...

Crazy 9x9 game
Hi.
I just played a crazy 9x9 game just a few minutes ago. I didn't play very well, and I was in time trouble during the last half of the game, but it was very exciting. The position got really complicated, I had no idea what was happening... It was just complete chaos. Hilarious that my small ...

Well then I would be interested to know the answer for a komi of 7.5 and also the answer for zero komi.skydyr wrote:Well, what's the komi? Komi is so big on a 9x9 that the right answer is very dependent on it.

What's Black strongest answer against this 9x9 opening?
Hi. I have encountered this opening many times. It has to be slightly bad for White. But I have absolutely no idea how I should answer it.

How to open SGF files (found on GTL) with the KGS interface?
Hello.
I'm trying to open SGF files with the KGS interface ("CGoban3").
For example I would like to open these commented games found on the Go Teaching Ladder (GTL): m
So I click on the number of the file in order to open the game, then this small window opens:

Must we play the first move in the top right corner in 9x9?
Hello.
As you all know, in 19x19 Black always play the first move in the lower half of the top right corner. It's impolite not to do so.
But what about in 9x9? Must we also follow this tradition by playing the first move on one of the following marked points?

Re: How to make a sgf file with commentaries and variations?
Thanks! Got it for the coordinates.
For the variations, I closed the game editor window. 30 minutes later I reopened it, but for some inexplicable reason there was a big difference this time: variations are shown as "A", "B", "C", on the points of the board. I have no idea why this wasn't here ...

How to make a sgf file with commentaries and variations?
Hello.
I play my games on KGS. When the game is over, there is an option to save the game to my computer. And when I click on the KGS shortcut on my desktop ("CGoban3") there is the option "Edit SGF file" which allows me to open one of my games and then to edit it.
This is what I get: m
