Re: Why do Japanese like Karaoke?

A very interesting reply-thanks for taking the time to answer this great mystery. I would have assumed it was more of stress relief but your answer showed their is more to it than just that. I was surprised it is a cheap evening. As an American the assumption is if it involves drinks (ETOH) it isn ...

Re: Why do Japanese like Karaoke?

Hmm...
It seems to me that you have explained that people in Japan like a certain environment - low prices, all you can drink, hanging out with friends for hours, smoking, etc... and that such environment happens to be offered in karaoke bars, so what the heck - lets do karaoke. Sounds reasonable ...

Why do Japanese like Karaoke?

Hello! Recently someone had asked me some questions about Japanese culture and Go in Japan. goTony kindly suggested I share my answers here since some people in the forum might enjoy hearing about them too. There are quite a bit of questions so I will try to answer one at a time first..

If you have ...

Re: Hello! New to Go here!

So you do not like raw horse meat? Lol

The taste is actually not bad, but I don't like the idea of it. lol

Ill have to echo all the requests for pic's on the Go scene in Japan. Hikaru no Go was also my first look into the world of Go but I wasn't able to see it until last year. I'm much older ...

Re: So excited!

That looks great! I'm happy you were able to get a nice floor goban! Kaya gobans are really nice but so expensive! I think other woods are still fine to play on and you can still enjoy go ne~

I agree too about the secondhand things. The only second hand things I don't recommend buying would be ...

Re: Just bought a Go set from Yahoo Auction Japan

Nice buy mmmsoup!
I like the bowls and stones a bit more than the board, but that's personal preference.
Have fun playing.
Thank you! I would've liked to get the stones too but I don't have a full set so my main goal then was to get both the board and stones in good condition that was also not as ...

Re: Hello! New to Go here!

I have made several different fliers and experimented with different posters. I am not an artist but I kind of like how this one turned out I thought it was eye catching: I wanted the look of Japanese calligraphy --lol it may not have turned out that way but that is what gave me the idea. Club ...

Re: Just bought a Go set from Yahoo Auction Japan

But US$ ~103 is still a good deal, methinks.

I think so too! But unfortunately I missed the last five minutes of that auction because I was in a "battle" myself with the goban set (the auction end time was like a minute apart between those two) XD and also the go bowl lid had a broken handle ...

Re: Just bought a Go set from Yahoo Auction Japan

Welcome to GO and the site!

That is a great deal for 4000Yen, about 40 dollars or so, I am amazed. The stones and board both look beautiful and are in very good condition. I like the idea of used board, and that someone enjoyed playing on the board before me.

I am not one to make a guess from ...

Just bought a Go set from Yahoo Auction Japan

Hello everyone!

I'm new to Go so I've been mostly studying on my computer or just playing games on my smartphone but I finally decided to take a look at some Go sets.
I figured I could just buy a cheap foldable goban from Amazon jp. I've been going back and forth on some models when I decided to ...
