Re: KGS is cool because...

KGS is cool because it is influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist.

Well, when I saw this thread I thought: KGS is a great server and indispensable for the non-Asian (western)
Go community, but is it cool? It may have been cool to play on KGS when most westerners still played
on IGS, but now it ...

Re: FREE Download of Moyo Go Studio 2009 and game packs

Does this work for macs?

Hi,

the author of MoyoGo famously wrote in rec.games.go during an exchange with a current forum user who writes about Macs:
"The Apple Macintosh is an overpriced and underpowered machine suffering from a chronic lack of software".

Sounds like "No!". (It's a no.)

Cheers ...

Re: FREE Download of Moyo Go Studio 2009 and game packs

Hi,

works on Windows 7 64 bit.

What you can try as well:
Right click Setup2009.exe, choose properties, select tab compatibility and
choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and say OK. Installation and starting MoyoGo
should then be no problem. Choosing compatibility mode Windows XP (Service Pack 3 ...

Re: The Best Way to Get Stronger?

Hi,

I voted
>Learning foreign language vocabulary for go terms
which seems an odd choice, although I have at least company in selecting this item.

I became interested in Go when I picked up in a bookshop a copy (at a reduced price) of
"Die Mitte des Himmels" meaning "The Center of Heaven" or ...

Re: KGS escaper policy - explicit enough?

Nope! (in response to the first post)

It is enough to explain the policy as done for instance by jyem:
m

Serial escapers are caught by the system.

For tournaments it makes sense that a referee decides who wins the game
if one party escapes. For normal games this would only be feasible
if it is a ...

Re: Go Review Archive finally available

Hi,

the scan quality of the sample issue is quite good and the price of only 1.4 Dollars per Go Review issue (average over the 3 sets) is a steal. Of course it is a great price only if one likes the content and really reads much of the material on the DVD(s) ...
I also liked the ads from the ...

Re: Now I get to play on IGS :-)

Hi,

since we are being funny here:

Reductio ad absurdum does NOT translate to absurd reasoning! :D

EDIT: somebody expressed it even in latin

Re: Now I get to play on IGS :-)

Hi,

Serenity prayer:
God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things that I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference.

(This ain't a religious post, just meant as a piece of wisdom.)

In this context, a changed version would be more appropriate ...

Re: Who will win the WAGC 2010

Hi,

I am not sure if I should vote for the youngest or the oldest. The player from Taiwan
is an 11 year old student. On the other hand the player from Poland has obviously been around
with his 481 years. ;-) Cannot make up my mind.

Cheers

Re: GM Alex Yermolinsky on Go

Hi,

well, that is the Alex Yermolinsky as we like him. The statement warrants a chuckle but not more.

I actually think that for both chess and go, tactics is everything, unless you are fairly strong. (I am not.)
Joseki, fights, reading, tesuji, invasions, reductions and boundary play sequences are ...

Re: The Art of Placement

Hi,

I thought that the post was quite funny. It obviously is a joke.

As for the late JB, he was one of those who could bring out the worst in some of us. When people ganged up on him on rgg, I automatically supported him although I did not agree with many of his postings. (I was only a reader and ...

Re: Are you left handed?

Hi,

I am completely right-handed (especially politically ). When I played football (soccer)
as a kid I was troubled by the fact that I played much better with my right foot. Being told by coaches that a
complete player should use both legs, I tried in some training matches to play predominately ...
