Another nice discovery: when you have double digit captures apparently PandaGo can't show you how many you have since the box doesn't expand at all, even when the window is more than wide enough.
Honestly, is anybody maintaining this code at all, or is IGS trying to will itself out of existence ...

Re: GoPanda client
Is there any interest among the developers of the new 'GoPanda' (I still think of it was gGo) in a better board graphic? The image used in glGo was better, even the default board for qgo was better. I wonder if the resolution is just too low since playing on a large monitor at high resolution the ...

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
I think Shikatsu's recent post is a good reminder of the importance of allowing people to replace the board graphic. Lets face it, the default image does look a bit dated. I'm not much of a programmer, but I don't imagine it would take a lot to give the option of loading the board from a file versus ...

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
That background looks nice, where did you find it?
I think ggo should consider a new higher resolution default background, so people using modern day monitors don't have that nice pixelated look. That might make a decent first candidate if it looks as good up close as it did in that version.

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
A very easy to implement feature request:
For any board, allow an option to display all stones as the same color. Ideally there would be an option to show all stones as white or all stones as black.
Some clients in the past have supported one color go, while others like qgo only provide the option ...

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
With regards to Devil's Pie: even if you can jerry-rig your window manager to do this, surely it should be part of the standard functionality of gGo. It doesn't make for people to either have to either edit config files or resize the window *every single time* they look at a game. Also, for game ...

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
A couple long term thoughts / suggestions:
- Allow custom board images. It seems like the scaling of the original image graphic either looks worse on my system or bothers me more than most people, but eventually it should be replaced with a higher resolution version. One good way to do that would ...

Re: gGo (IGS) Development Thread
Have you tried dragging the border of the text window to resize it? I think that the default behavior when resizing windows is incorrect, but it sounds like need to move the slider between the comments and the board.

Re: Buying some Go books, suggestions?
Generally, no.
Most books on topics in go use pro games as examples, and provide commentary that way. So reading other go books often indirectly gives you commentary. Pro games are played at a very very high level, there's no way around it, so commentary on pro games tends to be inaccessible to ...

Re: Buying some Go books, suggestions?
There is an English book which contains part of the Igo-hatsuyoron, but honestly don't waste your money. The problems are out of the question for almost all amateurs. Invincible is a wonderful book, but commentary (which is the reason you're buying it right?) is not for kyu players in my opinion ...

Re: Graded Go problems for dan-players
I looked through them recently when I was trying to decide which books to buy at a tournament, but I thought they were too easy. The problems are very standard low-dan stuff, a lot of "classical" problems which once you've seen somewhere else you remember.
If you're a dan player and you study ...

Re: Useful books to become stronger
In response to SoDesuNe's original post, a couple thoughts.
- The James Davies series is significantly under represented. A&D is of course the most important single book for a kyu player to read, but his books on Life and Death and The Endgame are also extremely important. Neither seems quite as ...

Re: I miss tchan001's books
I for one would really like to thank tchan001 for all the work he's put into his threads (and now blog, yea!). It helped me identify a number of Asian tsumego books I've had on my shelf, and get several more online. The GD list really is a unique resource for western go players, and I hope in time ...

Re: Software for writing Go books
With respect to the previous poster, printing screens is not going to look as professional as typesetting it properly in tex. It might be sufficient for many purposes, but it won't look like a proper book (the geeky explanation gets back to bitmaps versus vector graphics, but I don't know if you ...
