You should read this out, but the group at the top is dead as it stands. Even if black tries to connect under, you can cause liberty problems, and there is not enough space to fit two real eyes in there.
You mean at the end of the game? Yeah, I meant to say that when I was too unconcentrated to ...

Re: Seven stones
I have the 1001 book. I'm also considering Graded Go Problems, that really helped me when I played Go a few years back, back then I also felt that just by reading vol. 2 and 3 I was basically prepared to start going at vol. 4 straight away. It's amazing how much I've forgotten over the 3 years I ...

Re: Seven stones
My goal for this year is to improve by seven stones. At the moment I've improved in almost every aspect of the game except for reading. I played some chess the last few weeks, and it was a real eye opener as to aspects of Go that I really needed to brush up on. So now the plan is simply to do a lot ...

Re: Making Go digestible?
Things I'd say to a complete beginner would be:
1) Don't think too long and hard about moves, it's important to not make completely random moves, but to understand why moves are bad, they have to be made. Mistakes are your friends, they're stepping stones to getting stronger, and you'll never stop ...

Re: Seven stones
I've had two weeks vacation, and I've barely played Go in the meantime. However, I taught my girlfriend to play the game. I've tried to do some life and death problems though, as well as peeking a bit in “Making Good Shape”. I have been trying out the trial version of SmartGo however, and I can beat ...

Re: Player wants time 60-60
I have this problem too, and the weird thing is there doesn't seem to be a 60-60 time setting.

Re: Seven stones
Thanks EdLee, I'm glad I can brush up on my English as well as my Go.
In the spirit of life and death problems I got stuck on Gokibitz for a long while trying to figure out if Black could live in this position . I even posted a probably unhelpful post of my attempt to find a solution. The sun will ...

EdLee,

The first stone
So now that I’ve gotten placed at 16 kyu by IGS, I can finally begin systematically training towards my goal for 2015, namely 9 kyu. That means I have to strengthen my game by seven stones. One stone is supposed to make a ten point difference, so in that spirit I’ll try to look at ...

Re:
Game 2: I decided to not think too much on what I was doing. As far as I was concerned I was playing someone who was better than me, and I simply played casually, and without reflecting too much on my moves. I'm not sure what I wanted to do with this move.
In my defense, I'm sure I had some plan ...

Re: Return of the newbie
I lost this game because of a ridiculous mistake, and I'm now finally ranked at IGS with 16k. That means I have 7 stones to go before New Year. I also met up with people from my local club for the first time, which was also exciting.

Re: Return of the newbie
Thanks for your comments, guys. I'll reply to them later. First, a small update.
I've waited forever for my books, they arrived yesterday, and I've now started reading "1001 life and death problems". When I played Go a few years ago, a friend gave me a gift card for Guo Juan's lectures. I decided ...

Re: Return of the newbie
Hi Ed!
Takes the corner away from him. And I should prioritize the corner over the side, at least in this case.
Cleverer than my move, kicking him into shape.
I found that move odd as well. Maybe he didn't want me to play S15?
Well, I'd play something like O2 if I knew I had to deal with ...
