Re: Video series: Learning from AlphaGo

Your avatar is Charles Coburn.

In the 1940s, Coburn served as vice-president of the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals, a group opposed to leftist infiltration and proselytization in Hollywood during the Cold War.[citation needed] Coburn was a member of the White ...

talking of eyes, mine aren't as sharp as yours, so please can you make your next picture a little bigger?

a simple option labelled... Let me try to be constructive: as a card-carrying atheist fundamentalist, i wholeheartedly believe that cleanliness is next to godliness applies to user interface design just as much as it does to Thomas Crapper's innovation (oops, no, it was John Harrington's).

Re: Game plan as white?

A few comments. you didn't comment on black 7, which looks a little far from the shimari to be coordinated. of the alternatives you offer for white 8, i like Alfie's press, which would get white out with a bit of a wall to jump in behind black 7.

if white tenukis, black can attach at D17 to ...

Re: Announcing GoReviewPartner - v0.10 (supporting Leela Zer

too specific i hesitate to jump in here, but i'd like to try and make a case for dontbtme's idea, which strikes me as being right on the button, and wouldn't be hard to implement 'cos it's just a couple of "If" statements:

when puzzling over history, it would be so helpful if (a) you didn't tell ...

Plato's Cave

Black had everything going his way - or so he thought...

Where did he go wrong?

a salutory lesson for 10kyus

one thing you can't afford to be in Go is careless. here, black was well ahead (i think...) but due to overconfidence lost concentration in a simple combination that swept the carpet from under his feet and he came crashing to the ground.

What must black absolutely not do? Why?

What ...

Re: Game plan as white?

White has a feeling of urgency and a feeling of being behind. i want to take issue with this; you are 5D and i am 5K, so we are pretty much the same and can argue on even terms.

Throughout prehistory, White has always been behind Black - the first people were Black, and the first Britons were ...

Re: Video series: Learning from AlphaGo

why it says more about me than A0 your question opens up a can of worms so deep it makes Alfie's iceberg look like a pimple.

but it's such an important question - so important that schoolteachers of English and History and Politics and and and should maybe spend more time on it than telling us how ...

Re: cornerphobia

g.png so E3 should have been at C7, then white draws back like Redmond advised A0 to do.

i didn't want that, so figured i had to jump into the corner before the door was closed completely.

But, as you say, i should have left it alone until the right time; i'm sure that's what my new heroin(e) A0 ...

Re: Video series: Learning from AlphaGo

I'd say it's more greedy... invasions that I'd have thought were overplays i've only looked at Redmond's Reviews, and i recall that A0 made an invasion in game 4 that took even him by surprise, but as far as i remember he pointed out that it had two escape routes, so i got the feeling that A0 had ...
