NAGF Professional System

I'm starting this thread since discussion about the upcoming pro qualification tournament (https://nagofed.org/docs/2022-pro-qualification-rules.pdf) has been taking place on a thread that suggests a different subject.

The games will be played in person at the National Go Center (https://www ...

Looks like the next pro qualifier tournament is back on. Twelve contenders for two spots.

Re: Why did AGA not continue the pro certification program?

The next North American Pro Qualification Tournament is apparently set for August 16-21. Games are played live, but will be broadcast on KGS.

Re: AGA Professional system

I very much hope the NAGF succeeds, but it doesn't speak well of the future of the group that on their webpage the dates of the next qualification tournament are listed as:

Summer 2021 (Tentative - final dates to be announced in May)

and that there hasn't been an update on their news feed since ...

Re: AGA Professional system

It's true that having pro tourneys too often would be a bad idea, but having tourneys four years in a row and then having a five year drought without any public explanation just makes this look like an abandoned project.

Re: KGS Ranking adjustment?

I don't think the peculiarity you noticed is due to the frequency at which the rank updates, I think it is due to the fact that it looks at all recent history for your previous opponents as it updates.

For instance, if I win a game against someone who is currently listed at 5kyu, but who is rapidly ...

Re: Level on FOX server compared to others

The most recent rank comparison survey I know of can be found here:
https://idex.github.io/go-rank-survey/g ... mean-ranks

It seems pretty accurate to me. My own ranks are:
OGS: 4k
KGS and IGS: 3k
Fox: 1k
Tygem: 2d

Re: Tiangfu Cup, North American Prelim, and the KGS Broadcas

Ah, so it looks like the games were actually played using personal accounts on KGS, not played live and then broadcast. Thanks for the information and for the spelling correction.

Tiangfu Cup, North American Prelim, and the KGS Broadcast

For the past several days the AGA website has posted some announcements about a preliminary tournament to decide on North American representatives to the first Tiangfu Cup tournament.

Does anyone know anything about this tournament? When it will be held? How many total participants there will be ...

Yes. I dropped in on the Portland group once when I was in the city, but it's over a 4-hour drive one way. My go addiction isn't quite that strong, yes. :)

Hello from Eastern Oregon

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I've lurked here for quite a while and even posted a few things, but thought I should introduce myself a bit. I learned the rules of go back in college (around 1990) from a really early computer program that only played 9x9. I hadn't really been active with the game until ...

Re: Leela has a new version

I'm curious what other people's experiences are with the rated game system on the newest version of Leela.

When I play rated games on a 9x9, I wind up settling at 6kyu or 7kyu most of the time, which is slightly below my actual strength.

On a 19x19, I wind up at 1kyu or 2kyu usually, which is ...
