Re: Selling Size 37 Snow Grade slate/shell with bowls

Are you selling Kuroki stones? If not, it doesn't seem reasonable to compare the stones to Kuroki prices.

I hadn't meant to speak poorly of Mr. Kuroki and his prices, nor sway favor unjustly towards my stones. But I will remove the statement, since I have done business with Mr. Kuroki in the ...

Selling Size 37 Snow Grade slate/shell with bowls

For personal reasons, I can no longer hold onto this set of go stones. So, before I open them to ebay, I thought I would see if anyone on the forums is interested in purchasing.

-These stones are size 37 slate and shell, snow/yuki grade. As an aside, they are absolutely gorgeous.

-They are near ...

Re: In lieu of posting hundreds of games individually...

I feel the more I play, the less confident I am in my rank. KGS keeps suggesting 6k(?), and now 5k(?), but the following game is ripe enough with blunders that I don't feel proud of that. I can only conclude that I am a weak player.

I have a tournament next weekend - My first ever go tournament ...

Hi ed,

Thanks so much for giving me such thorough feedback. I can always count on you to give helpful and extensive commentary.

I want to make sure I'm understanding the toothpaste idea. You've mentioned it before in my games, and it seems to be a mistake I make a lot.... now I want to ...

Re: In lieu of posting hundreds of games individually...

I played two new games today. One of which, I played terribly and my opponent punished me for. The other, I played just okay, and my pulled off a win.

I am black in both.

Yeah, that's about it. I'm a bit embarrassed by this game.

Thanks for the commentary, everyone. I read it all over. I'll be posting another game shortly, if anyone wants to take a look at it.

In lieu of posting hundreds of games individually...

...I am going to post them in here.

I used to play chess when I was younger. I got to about 1600 USCF, then tapered off at the age of 11. I used to get very nervous playing, and I would feel an immense pressure to win. I was not good at handling losses. And I bring this up to say that I am still ...

Re: Thickness of the board

I have size 37, and I definitely recommend thicker stones. The wobble when you first place the stone is very satisfying. And the stones feel heavy and significant in your hand.

The board grain looks wonderful. Slight irregularities in the grain give character, and are considered desireable.

The question becomes: if you really make a "dumb" mistake as you said, then how are you reinforcing
your brain to recognize and avoid this mistake in the future ? In this exact shape,
and in other variations ? That's a key question.

It's a fair question, and I don't have an excuse for my lack ...

Re: SDK game review...

You are leaving a lot of positions thin and unfinished, with bad aji waiting to bite you later. Especially when you have a won game, consider adding a thick safe move to finish off a position. Also, there is a capturing tesuji you should learn, which came up three times in this game!

at L4 would ...

SDK game review...

Hi all,

I played a new game recently, and I know I made a lot of terrible mistakes. I'm white in this game. I won by a nice margin, but 147 was a mistake.

I'm almost positive that if black fights the ko, he wins, and the entire white shape is dead. Can someone help me here? Both in reading the ko ...

Weekly Go Club - Victory, but places to improve.

Hi everyone,

I visited my weekly go club tonight, and wanted some feedback on the game I played. Last time I was there, I beat a 7k player, but I couldn't remember the game. This time, my opponent and I were able to replay the game once we had finished. My opponent, a 6 kyu, had resigned, but I ...

The board is Japanese size, shin-kaya /spruce. Do you really think it's too large? Hi Christopher,

I go crazy with all these vague, relative terms -- "too large", "big", "large size", etc. "urgent before big" --
could you measure the exact dimensions (to the nearest mm) from A1 to T1, and from A1 ...
