I'm back!
Well, I've been back for a little while. I spent some time thinking in December, and came to the realization that Go is definitely one of my two favorite hobbies. My problem has been a form of ladder anxiety, which is odd for me. I have never really suffered from it in any other games I ...

Re: In the year 2019...
I have 3 goals.
1. Participate in AYD, including watching all the reviews of the leagues above me. This will probably be my league and 3-4 more.
2. Play 300 games this year with at least 10 minutes main time. This is just the slowest and second slowest automatch settings on the servers I play.

Week One Summary
Games
I averaged 1 game a day, with the majority of those loaded onto the weekend due to a tournament.
Problems Completed
I was surprised to find out I still averaged 45 problems a day. I felt like I was doing much fewer problems than normal. So I must actually be doing a lot. Looking forward ...

Re:
Hi Mouse, welcome back. :) continue to have problems with forcing moves. Bad news: this will never go away.
Good news and evidence: even 'forcing' moves considered good or bad by pros the past few hundred years have been refuted by super-human engines. ( Corollary: even pros have had these blind ...

Re: Mouse's Way
I have not posted here for almost a year. I've been playing, but was involved with other hobbies and not really studying. Part of my problem in a number of things in my life was setting unreasonable demands without first evaluating where I'm at.(Play 1 game a day when I averaged 2 every couple of ...

Re: A beginner's journey
Thanks everyone for your replies!
I already joined openstudyroom a while ago, but I haven't used it yet, because I'm not quite sure how to utilize it properly. Do I just request games from random people?
Yep, just click on the game request channel and say. 'Any one want a game?' If you want you ...

Re: A beginner's journey
Hey Mystery,
As one of the players who shot from beginner to mid single digit kyu in six months, I studied and played a lot. I was in my senior year of high school and I had the time to play an average of five games a day with twenty-five-minute main time. I also read a couple of books a week and ...

Re: Tsumego!
Lee Changho books are great. Past the first volume might be a bit beyond 13k though.

Hi Glummie,
As of this post, I have a one hundred and sixty-three-day streak with the internet go school training system. I have a years subscription to both the lectures and the training system. I'm outlining how I use the program, your mileage may vary.

Re: Playing vs reviewing games + tsumego!
The important thing is to separate books that are about enjoying the game and books that might actually help you improve in an effective manner. My experience is that very, very, very few books fall into the later category. especially prior to SDK.
Can confirm as the owner of many Go books ...

Re: Playing vs reviewing games + tsumego!
I tend to review every game lightly. My view is that the biggest benefit you can get out of reviews is looking at why you were unhappy with a result of the opening and or middle game. You can get a lot of mileage out of realizing that taking all the corners in the handicap game only gave you about ...

Re: Study Plan and Progress Tracking
One of the most important things as a beginner is to enjoy the game. Meeting your checklist for games played and problems completed is pointless if it feels like a chore. You will soon stop playing. On the other hand, it can be good to have a plan so that you don't forget to play.(In my case)

Re: A beginner's journey
Hello FTG,
I sympathize with not playing enough games. I love to do go problems and study patterns but find logging onto a server and playing hard. A method I've found helpful is implementation intention. If I just say I will play a game every day I won't follow through. But if I instead say I will ...

Re: How is the Internet Go School for a beginner?
Hey Jrs22,
I've found a lot of use out of the Internet Go School but I started using it when I was already quite strong. However, it has helped me shore up fundamentals that I did know I was lacking. E.g. revolutionized how I thought about eyes at 4k. The advice that was given to me was two-fold ...
