Re: Following Iyama Yuta (no world ranking discussions)
Iyama has lost to both Park and Mi in the World Go Championship... Nothing surprising. I now kind of expect Iyama to lose to deep zen.

Please be sure to let us know how the board sound when you place a stone on it. I wonder if table Kaya boards retain the sharp 'click' of a floor board. Thanks.

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
This is a thread for people who who are interested in tracking Iyama Yuta's achievements because for them he plays a good and or interesting game and because the people want to talk about that. If he is in first or last place in any stupid ranking is totally off topic (and as a fan I don't care one ...

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Just like there's no way Lee Sedol is in the top 10 because he lost to Ichiriki Ryo?
Did Lee lose to Ichiriki in a seven game match?
No. But top Korean and Chinese pros have never beaten Takao in a seven game match with 8 hours each either. So whilst they are considerable favourites in the ...

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Well, there are two alternative world rankings, Dr. Park Tiel rank that successfully push Iyama Yuta out of top20 and Mamumamu rank that happily push him out of top30.

mitsun wrote:by78, your logic seems to be:
1) Iyama lost to Takao in a long match
2) Therefore Iyama cannot be among the world top 10
Is this really a persuasive logical argument?
Maybe logic is not your strong suit.
Seems perfectly persuasive to me. What do you reckon Takao's world ranking is?

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Takao won the final game by 2.5 points so Iyama loses the 7 crowns. Iyama played what seemed like overly slow in the opening to me (see m), allowing Takao to build a large moyo on the left. There was some exciting ko and trades and moyos, but Takao managed the situation well and it felt like a ...

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
The thing with the new stars tournament is that, by the time China played Japan, their win was already guaranteed so they didn't really try.
That said, it's impressive beating those guys even if they weren't trying their best.

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Ichiriki recently won a game against Lee Sedol by 0.5, and that's about the only notable win I could find between Ichiriki and Yu against international competition from Korea and China. Looking through their records going two years back, they both lost consistently against middling competitors from ...

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Yeah. Honestly Iyama should lose all his titles and start trying his luck in international titles. Then we can know whether he's top class or not after all.
Ichikiri and Yu are actually good candidates, their recent international performances are pretty good.

Re: Iyama Yuta did it!
Nothing against Iyama of course but now that he has achieved the grand slam of Japanese titles, I kind of want other players to win some titles, especially "new faces" like Ichiriki. I feel this can only make the go scene more interesting.

Ok, so the English translation should be "Effeminately Elitist Baduk with Blossoming Youthful Feelings".
