Re: Segoe in Europe queries
John - John Barrs mentioned this to me as Segoe had visited him at his flat in London and Segoe had given Barrs a gift of a gold canister. Mrs Barrs had opened it and she thought it was tea so she made a pot and took it through. Segoe threw his head back and roared with laughter, flashing his gold ...

Re: New Go Seigen book - The Survivors
I eventually returned the badly printed copy to Amazon, got a refund and ordered another copy. That arrived a bit battered, but it had the same printing problems, which was odd as I thought it was print-on-demand. I think Amazon just returned my first copy!

Re: New Go Seigen book - The Survivors
I wouldn't expect you to have this problem. My copy was printed in the UK and it's a printing issue - one colour ink ran out. Our copies were printed from the same manuscript that John F produced, but as it's print-on-demand things can go wrong - in my case every fourth page but that doesn't show on ...

Re: New Go Seigen book - The Survivors
John - I have now had time to go through The Survivors - it's a book that I really like. I enjoyed the background and learning about Iwamoto's time in Brazil, which I was aware of but had not read anything. Highly recommended - thank you. Looking forward to your book on Segoe - only four months to ...

Thank you for checking - it is now available on Amazon UK. I have ordered a copy.

Re: New Go Seigen book - The Survivors
This book is not yet available on the UK site, I checked on the 9th, 10th and again today the 11th. However it looks like I could order it on the USA site and it would ship to the UK.

Kikuchi Yasuro chose and commented on Yamashita's games in Chapter 3 of the Hinoki Press book "Breakthrough Attacking Power Yamashita-Style". In chaper 4 Kikuchi briefly talks about studying at the Ryokusei Gakuen "our policy is to have the students devise their own study methods and we do not ...

Re: Which direction for my 300 ABC mistakes?
The first book that looks at mistakes amateurs make that I suggest is:
"Aiming at Shodan - Three faults that hold you back" - there is a very thorough review at:

Re: Kikuchi Yasuro RIP
I first heard of Kikuchi, along with Bunsho Murakami and Harada maybe 50 years ago - I refrained from giving John F a "like" for posting news of his death.....but it's news that needs to be shared, so thank you.

Re: Which direction for my 300 ABC mistakes?
Dieter - There are a number of books written by professionals along the lines of what are the key things that amateurs don't know, I think their topics chosen are subjective but based on their experience of teaching for say 20 or 30 years.

Re: Japanese Go books available as PDF
I have been asked what PDF Go books do I recommend (easy question but difficult answer) - I suggest it all depends on:
How motivated are you?
Your knowledge of written Japanese - do you know the basics? Have you read Richard Hunter's "Just Enough Japanese" series?
Topic - does it excite you?
