Re: Frustrated

Yep, definitely time to quit! Also, yes, I am an idiot. No need to ask.

Re: Frustrated

Thanks for the comments Charles!
(1) Black has weakish groups: on the left side and the lower side. That means a decisive separation in the area of H6 sets up good things for you.
This is very interesting. I see exactly what you mean. If I can split my opponent into two weak groups, that is great ...

Re: Frustrated

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the review! Thanks especially for pointing out that cut at N8. That is something that I think I should be able to see and fix. As for missing a vital point...of course we did! We are newbs man, so we have no idea what we're doing. At I did realize that my group was not alive, but ...

Re: Frustrated

Hi everyone! Getting somewhat better. I'm going to post a game that I actually won. (Gasp!) I find it more useful to try to find a move that I know is NOT BAD and also accomplishes something (perhaps two things at once), rather than searching in vain for "the best move." Besides, if there is always ...

Re: Frustrated

Hi everyone. Well, things are getting somewhat better now. As it turns out, the secret to fighting is very simple: count liberties. This should probably be the first sentence in any book/website introduction for beginners. I think it's way more important than approach/enclosures/extensions/invasions ...

Re: Frustrated

You've atari'ed the stone. Good. You see his liberty problem. But there are two directions you could have pushed black. Do you see them?

You pushed the wrong direction. Your stones on that side get cut off and surrounded by black. Even before you add another stone to it with you're out numbered ...

Re: Frustrated

Thanks again for the helpful comments! Yeah, I can see what I did wrong in that game. As you can probably tell I was....well...frustrated. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. I actually just played a game in which I won a fight. I could hardly believe it. I was trying to post it, but it won't ...

OK, you can now enjoy looking at one of my games! I'm actually pretty proud that I was able to figure out how to post it. I think I've pretty much had it with this game. It's honestly just stressing me out at this point. The information on go ...

Re: Frustrated

Do you try to review your games afterwards?
Try to focus on finding and correcting only one or two common mistakes you catch yourself making each time.

I have started doing that, and it is definitely helpful. I can usually find what went wrong in the fight, and what I could have done differently ...

Re: Frustrated

Thanks again for all the helpful comments! I am playing humans online now. Guess what happens....I lose!

Any time that I get in a fight, I always lose. I am trying to play moves like there are in the books. You know, corner enclosure, extensions, approach, stuff like that. My opponents will have ...

Re: Frustrated

Well, I am still playing this game, but it is definitely a love-hate relationship. Learn to Play Go , vols 1 and 2 helped somewhat. Of course, I almost never actually apply the concepts from the books because I don't see them on the board. I feel like lessons with a real human being would be by far ...

Re: Frustrated

Thanks for all the helpful advice! That is exactly what I was looking for, particularly the book recommendations. I will give one of these a try to see if that helps. I suppose I will try playing some humans online, but honestly the idea fills me with dread. And we are talking about playing a game ...

Re: Frustrated

Thanks for all the helpful comments! I have definitely lost more than 100 games because that is the advice I saw everywhere. As was pointed out above, this is obviously horrible advice, but it's not likely to change because it has become a cliche. I played a bunch of 9x9 games against the computer ...

Frustrated

Hi! OK, so as instructed, I've lost a billion games in a row. Is there any way that I could possibly win one at any time in the future? Unfortunately, it's no fun at all to play a game that you can't possibly win at.
