Re: LZ's progression

Nothing to see here.. it was an error and it has been fixed in the server code so it would not happen again..

Re: Graphics card

I dont have any benchmarks to give you, but i wouldnt be surprised if they performed very similarly, or if the 5700 XT was actually a bit quicker.

The 5700 XT can do 2:1 FP16:FP32, the GTX 1080 Ti (or any cards of that family for that matter) can not.

So on the 5700 XT you get around 18 tflops ...

Re: Graphics card

As a general rule of thumb:

If you are planning on running software that supports Nvidia RTX series Tensor Cores, then no, AMD does not have anything to compete.
Tensor Cores are purpose built to accelerate neural networks, so in case you are running Leela for example, they will outperform AMD ...

Re: A new run of KataGo released - strength comparable to EL

Lets say that you have given the bot a budget of 10.000 visits or playouts for a move. Be this either by setting a time limit, and your hardware being able to do that amount in the set time limit, or by manually setting an amount of playouts.

With 1 thread, the bot will look through options with ...

Re: Western professionals as a resource

No clue, good to remember though that those participation lists are only preliminary, they can always sign up on-site.

EDIT: One theory, no clue if correct or accurate, could be the following:

Brussels is extremely expensive to stay in, and the most important events(?), Pandanet European Team ...

Re: Western professionals as a resource

I've been thinking a bit of late (you'll have noticed increased temperatures) on Western pros. In broad brushes, we have four kinds of Western Pros (and three of strong amateurs):

* Western pros who belong and perform in an Asian association (Redmond 9-dan)
* Western pros who've come back and ...

Re: Western professionals as a resource

I don't see any pro certified by EGF here:

http://egc2019.eu/congress/teaching-team

That is because the EGF Pros are trying to make a living out of Go, and the European Go Congress is extremely important for that due to many reason:

1.
It provides quality games for the EGF Pros that can ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

Nice to see Ilya and EGF winning.

Even in this game Ilya lost two out of his five byo periods due to lag. Having a time disadvantage due to that.
He also finished the game at midnight local time i think?
The EGF pros seem to be at a disadvantage that i hope they fix for next year.

How do you ...

Re: 2019 China Weiqi League

That's too bad. Looks to me they weren't really better than last year. It just happened they one of the 3 teams added this year to the C league were weaker than the Europeans.

Also looks like Chinese 12-yr old 5D players are at the level of European 2p players. Artem Kachanovski played only 5D/6D ...

Re: Graphics card

Yepp, you should just ignore the table posted above with the ms/move, because it does not give any actual information.

The speed of which Leela generates a move depends on several things:

- You can run it on time settings, in which case it will generate moves according to time control, regardless ...

Re: 2019 China Weiqi League

Professional "ranks" are not very useful for figuring out how strong someone is.

Looking at the European Go Database and the European rating system, Ilya Shikshin is already very close, or at, the historic peak rating of Catalin Taranu.

This of course isnt a perfect measurement for strength ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

With what happened in a certain earlier game, i find it rather odd and amusing that some people on OGS and Twitch are suggesting that Ali should resign and not play to the end...

You know.. if there is a large 10-ish point difference, how could the game result ever change?

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

How many times does it need to be repeated that it does not know how to play high handicap?

Whatever you try at 5-4-3 stones, even 2 stones handicap, is completely irrelevant.. its not what it was designed to do..
(EDIT: And do note.. when the handicap goes higher, the bot gets much worse. It is ...
