Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

Has Nihon Kiin said anything about Sumire's #$%^&*? Strange that this area hasn't been covered, given all the attention paid to Sumire's other minutiae.

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

Tanaka doesn't appear to be all that active, with Go4go recording only 10 games in the last 26 years ! Moreover, Tanaka's rating is only 2279, but I can't be sure this is accurate, given the paucity of data. But 2279 is some 315 points lower than Rita Pocsai, an European amateur 4-dan!

I wonder if ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

From what the Korean pros said, namely that she is way stronger than equivalent Korean insei at the same age, I think would put her somewhere close to Euro pros.
What Korean pros? Their names? When did they say it? What was the context? Were these pros connected to Sumire, such as teaching at the ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

To be honest, I didn't try to assess her strength from the available go records, I just assumed she is too strong for me to judge.

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

Go Seigen was promoted straight to 3-dan in Japan by RECOMMENDATION at age 12. And that the Barmy Beetroot choked on his own smoothie juice when Cho Chikun got the Sumire treatment, being CUTELY propped up on cushions for photographers so that he could see the board. And that size matters - when ...

On Saturday I went to the Nihon Ki'in as usual and what awaited me inside the front door?

Good, then this thread should be locked for now and re-opened in 2021.

Don't know how many years, but I do know that it wasn't until approximately two (or three?) years ago that Japan finally qualified for the B-League.

Yawn. This is quickly getting rather boring. What's her favorite flavor of icecream? Does she prefer to go potty in the morning or at night? What's her blood type and favorite color?

OR maybe she should take a handicap of two or three stones against other professionals, just to make her games more ...

The sponsor has decided to give the wild cards to Gu Li and Nakamura Sumire

The Sumire phenomenon is getting a bit out of hand. Being chosen as a wild card in such a major tournament? Seriously? What kind of strings did Nihon Kiin pull to get her in the tournament? This just confirms my suspicion ...

Re: Iyama's world ranking

Iyama has dropped to #63 on Mamumamu's ranking. On Goratings.org, which greatly inflates Japanese players' strength, Iyamma has dropped to #42.

#42 is still too high, but that's Goratings for you.

Re: western pros in asia

Europe has been sending a Pro team to the Chinese C league with very limited success.

You have to put Europe's performance in the proper context. The game is still young in Europe, and for the European pros to have won a few games in the Chinese C-league was by no means a no small feat. Until ...
