Cheap shot! However - apes have some extraordinary, even super-human mental skills in memorization, pattern recognition.

Re: Hajin Lee (Haylee) vs. Leela Zero, March 15, 21:00 UTC,

The game has been played: _qVlpJ_fWzo
The game ended with Leela Zero winning:The score B+2.5 (after komi) given by Leela seems wrong to me though because the seki in the upper right corner is counted wrong IMHO. "My" score is B+7.5.

P.S. I don't know why Haylee didn't take the upper left corner in ...

Widdershins (or withershins) [...] (for our German/Scandinavian members, the first element is wider/wieder and sin is an old word for direction). In Low German - this language / dialect is still spoken by country people in northern Germany (my father spoke Low German with the neighbour, but I never ...

Re: The perfect game

You need to apply mathematical methods in order to reduce the number of possibilities (its not about aesthetics). The number of board positions is of the order of 3^361 ~= 1.7*10^172 which is a pretty huge number. If your computer works at a speed of 10^12 operations per second and with each ...

Re: The perfect game

maybe mathematical research could help to find building blocks of perfect play Mathematical theorems DO describe perfect play for certain (classes of) positions, such as certain (classes of) positions with very late endgame, semeais or kos. (What do you mean with "(building) blocks"?) Actually ...

Re: The perfect game

Agreed that strong playing isn't related to perfect play. Disagree that it matters for anything practical. I'm not so sure in both cases. Let me elaborate.

A)"Strong playing isn't related to perfect play". We don't know that. It could be that certain board positions can be judged as lost or won ...

Re: Let's study AlphaGo's opening book

Here's the sequence from Master vs Shi Yue (a rare occurrence of Master as black playing the small shimari for an orthodox opening), note that before 1 black's win% as reported in the teaching tool was 44.6, a bit of a drop from the 47 That seems to be quite a drop off in winning percentage for ...

Re: AlphaGo Teach discussion (Go Tool from DeepMind)

For what it's worth: I think one can find the games that AlphaGo played against humans inside that tree of variations. For example (I tried that out) game No. 18 of Master (Black) against Ke Jie is contained and one can follow AlphaGo's evaluations. Interestingly, Master does not always choose the ...

Yep, fireflies - they came in through the open balcony door yesterday evening. The lights were off and these "Glühwürmchen" made little arcs of greenish light that fluttered back and forth very quickly. Very spooky but fascinating!

I am 59.95748 and this year I'm going to celebrate twice: a "not-yet-60-years-old-day" at a nice Biergarten in Munich and a more pensive birthday at a gemütliches restaurant in Leipzig.

Re: alphago self-analysis by fan hui

OK, moha, got it! So White has to play B9 before all the dame are filled in. But then (with Uberdude's remark) I'm back to my B+1.5 score. I'll figure it out (sooner or later).
Edit: Argh! I didn't read dhu163's post. Then it's Chinese rule, 7.5 point komi and B+0.5. So everything's fine.
Edit2: I'm ...
