Re: Chess problems?

At any rate, some of what I see is this. The site that shows Elo ratings of top players live has shown zero changes almost totally for the past couple of months. This applies across the classical, rapid and blitz ratings. In other words, most players are inactive.

There are plenty of online ...

Re: Is this opening really so bad?

If I look a little more deeply, I see SL as a group of amateurs who are not themselves improving as a result of AI and who are not helping to grow the game. Growing the game would be nice but it is out of scope for a thread where someone simply asks whether an opening is bad. (My own attempts at ...

Re: Is this opening really so bad?

He does not explain his counts, beyond using the criteria of this table. One could say an AI doesn't explain either, at least without effort to experiment with the position. But in truth, Ishida actually does try to explain how he arrives at his counts, with explanations along the lines of "This ...

Re: Is this opening really so bad?

I'd be interested to know what you and anyone else think W+5.7 means.

Why would it be difficult to understand? Ishida Yoshio had a series of articles in Go World called "Bad Moves: How many points do they lose?" where he wasn't shy about analyzing certain moves that were considered bad and ...

Re: Efficient algorithm for counting liberties?

A decent approach is to approach the entire thing from an incremental-update perspective. Below is how KataGo does it. There are probably much more efficient implementations (e.g. fancy bitboards)

I use bitboards in q5go, and I'll post an outline of the idea here just for reference. I've not made ...

I've made a 2.1.3 release just so there's an up-to-date binary. Nothing much has changed recently.

Re: Some Qestions about KataGo and Lizzie

In 2 minutes, Lizzie managed to get 38.8k playouts from KataGo. g5Go managed 11.4k visits. If the KataGo executable and options are the same, performance should be identical. It's probably a reporting difference.

Can the graph in q5Go be made bigger? There are lots of examples of big graphs

Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: core gui widgets xml network multimedia svg sql
Since I don't know what a QT module is or how to get one, I gave up too.
The system runs Debian bullseye (V11.3) with XFCE.
Maybe my barebones approach is part of the problem.
Yeah, you need all the Qt5 ...

Re: Some Qestions about KataGo and Lizzie

1. Sometimes the percentage win rate goes up when the 'correct' move is played.
The two images show how the analysis changed in a no-komi game with 5000 playouts.
KataGo increases White's win rate from 29.3% to 31.2%.
There is presumably some benefit from playing the correct move, in that the
game ...

I would also say white could consider not obeying black's peep and considering a counter-attack with something like n8, inviting black to save the cutting stone and fight.
Something you realize when you look at a number of games with KataGo is that it is often uninterested in making bad-shape ...
