Re: Puzzling response to 'search position' on Senseis Librar
Thanks for your response Bill. The stone responses I refer to are not in a diagram but are shown under the query diagram with numbers that I think are instances or proportions of use. Also, thanks for the search link which I did not see before. Fred

Re: Puzzling response to 'search position' on Senseis Librar
I've tried to find a link or something to do that to no avail. Missing something obviously.

Puzzling response to 'search position' on Senseis Library
The stones illustrated in response to a position search at Sensei's Library sometimes show as BOTH black and white. I am confused as to what a white stone response refers to when the position query is asking for a black stone response. I would very much appreciate enlightenment. Fred

Re: back after 2years -- what changed for you afer a long b
I was out for 30 years and can hardly remember what my play was like back then, but I think it was probably at what is now a low ddk level although at the time I was ranked 11 kyu on IGS. Anyway life, work and children took over. Now that I'm playing again I find that I enjoy it more than before ...

Re: OGS and DGS are best go servers
It is understandable that a player who joins a new server and ranks himself too low can be taken as a sandbagger but that does autocorrect after time. However it is jarring to an opponent who expects reasonable competition but gets overpowered. I found myself in this position (sandbagger) and tried ...

Need help to find a reviewer
I would like to find a strong player to review some of my recent games on IGS, in particular the fuseki moves. I frequently lose during the end game but that is due to inattention which can only be corrected by me. I will pay for time. I am currently 14k on IGS. I would appreciate advice on how to ...

I don't have a clear understanding of what distinguishes "midgame" from "endgame" and would appreciate guidance. Fred

Re: Slow play especially in endgame results in lost game on
Thank you EdLee and zermelo for responding.
I must confess that I did not carefully read the section on Byo-Yomi time on KGS. When I played on IGS many years ago, the Byo-Yomi periods were for 25 moves and I just assumed that was standard.
Slow as I am, I would rarely spend a minute on an end ...

Re: Slow play especially in endgame results in lost game on
I think I have been shooting myself in the foot with my time choice on KGS. My custom game selection has been --- Main time 30.00; Byo-Yomi time 0.30; Byo-Yomi Periods 5. Please don't ask me why I thought the Byo-Yomi time 0.30 signified a thirty minute period. I have an excuse, I'm old. Now that I ...

Slow play especially in endgame results in lost game on time
I have played about 50 games against DGS robots and am ranked 12k. I would like to play more games with human opponents but when I do I frequently lose on time because of slow play, particularly during the endgame. DGS allows very slow games but that is too slow to be fun so I am caught in the ...

Locked out of DGS but didn't ping excessively
I was playing a number of games on DGS when after one submission I got a busy page which continued to ping the site repeatedly very fast. I didn't realize at the time that this would run out my quota or I would have tried to log off. I guess I'm locked out for a day. Sorry. Fred

Re: Possible to improve ranking by playing MFOG computer?
Thank you shoreline. That is very helpful information. I have not played for many years so my old ranking is likely not accurate. So I will play the 9K bot on DGS a number of times to see where I am. Thanks again! Fred

Re: Possible to improve ranking by playing MFOG computer?
Hi Mike Novack,
Thanks for your response. I will follow your suggestions.
I'm curious about your reference - avoiding the "bad habit of your level". Is that what happens when you play against your current (low) strength?

Re: Possible to improve ranking by playing MFOG computer?
Thank you all for your informative responses. I intend to follow up on your suggestions. By the way jeromie, I found the MFOG command that ranks computer games. Thanks again.
