Whether or not the short time benefits the computer or the human is a tricky question..
If you have two computers and one is 3 times faster than the other, then using the faster computer and 20 seconds per move is equivalent to playing against the slow one where it has 60 seconds per move (if you ...

Re: A note on percentages
If you say that a position is complicated for an AI based on whether or not the 'best-move candidate' can change given a few million extra playouts, then you probably include a rather large amount of all positions.
For example, if you're at move 50-100, then the complexity of your position ...

Re: A note on percentages
"judging the quality of a move" based solely on percentages given by an AI program seems dubious at best..

Re: KataGo Parameters
From what I understand/recall, it has been found to generally improve move selection (higher rating in internal tests with the setting enabled)
I wouldn't think of it as something to optimize and would leave it on unless someone gives a good reason as to why not.

I didn't find the discussions in Leela/KataGo about when LCB was implemented, but here is a reference to what it is:

Re: Katago and RTX 3050
During various tournaments, I've analyzed games with the 900 series on a laptop (and not the top model)
(Note 900 -> 1000 -> 2000 -> 3000 for the series)
That is of course not nearly as convenient as a new graphics card on a desktop, but that is to say that it is possible!
Therefore any 3000 ...

Another thing you can try is to find the komi which makes the win% evaluation closest to 0.5

It comes to mind when Remi Coulom started Goratings.org, there was someone who commented about how they found it wrong that the ratings of the top go players were lower than those of top chess players.

Re: European professional online league, 2nd season
The finals were Ilja vs. Ryan, with Ryan winning 3-1. The first three games were pretty close, with both players generally playing well. The fourth game was a little lopsided--I didn't listen to the post-game commentary, but during the game, Pavol and Ali seemed to indicate that Ilja was behind ...

Re: A mysterious corner - KataGo Japanese vs Chinese Rules
I forgot a very simple experiment that one could make with this position.
Simply, I let white capture the single stone in the corner, to help clarify the final position under japanese rules. Black passes in the meantime.
When I do this, under japanese rules, white loses 1 point in katago's ...

I recently looked at this 'modern' pattern, with the two space low pincer which is usually the highest rated pincer by AI standards.
In the pattern, there are two main variations one can play, one of which ends with a local seki.

Re: KataGo v1.4
I should add the full position for clarity =)
By 40-block extended, I meant one of the experimental networks. So it is possible that this is some overfitting as we are looking at a flying-dagger variation. (and japanese rules 6.5 komi btw)

The 40 block extended network has some interesting side effects :p

Note that it fully expects white to capture.
