Re: LG Cup 29 final fiasco

I found this article by chance:
https://sports.sina.com.cn/go/2025-05-12/doc-inewhhpk3262792.shtml

It doesn't say if Ke Jie has played since February but I might also just have missed that. However, it does say that he wasn't on the national team roaster in April and it gives some reasons why ...

Re: LG Cup 29 final fiasco

Also, is Ke Jie participating in any tournaments anymore?

go4go doesn't have any Ke Jie games since Jan 2025. And he doesn't show up in the Chinese ranking from gotoeveryone. So he is outside the top 30 this year? I don't know where he is in this list: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s ...

Re: LG Cup 29 final fiasco

Looks like the Chinese are so angry about this that they decided to boycott LG cup. At least that is how I understand the google translation of 'the Chinese team was absent from tournament': http://www.eweiqi.com/index.php?m=conte ... 7&id=35917.

Re: Ichiriki Ryo

Ichiriki is doing well in international tournament again: in 1st Beihai Xinyi Cup he defeated Lian Xiao, Xie Erhao and Mi Yuting to reach the quarterfinals. The Chinese juggernaut has 5 players left, Japan two (Hsu Chiayuan/Kyo Kagen is also still in it) and Korea only one (Shin Jinseo).

It is very ...

Re: Fukuoka Kotaro

Fukuoka Kotaro is doing really well in Meijin: he is 5-0 in the group, but he still has 3 hard games left: Shibano Toramaru (who seems in very good form), Iyama Yuta and Yamashita Keigo.

Re: Harsh penalty for using phone

An 8-year ban seems super excessive, especially if it's for something similar to what happened in Korea. I wonder what the full story is and why they came down so hard on her.

I believe they came down very hard on her because:
1) they wanted to send a message
2) she doesn't seem very promising ...

Harsh penalty for using phone

According to https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/kc7VsGMiWU__bng5zE8VzQ , the Chinese association banned a 19-year old player for 8 years and revoked her professional license? Seems very harsh compared to the Korean's penalties for a similar offense. I don't speak Chinese, so I relied on google translation ...

Re: 26th Nongshim Cup

Looks like Shin Jinseo won the Nongshim cup for Korea when he defeated Li Xuanhao and Ding Hao in the last two games. Still, it was good to see the Japanese players play until the last round.

LG Cup 29 final fiasco

I found the result very baffling. The two games won by Byun Sangil 9p were fouled? I am not very convinced the rule about putting the pieces in the lid is reasonable. I think there should be a big asterisk next to Byun Sangil's win.

Re: Fukuoka Kotaro

Fukuoka Kotaro will represent Japan at a new international tournament (Supreme player). It will be a round robin tournament and he will get to play against top 8 players in the world. I'm not sure he's at that level though: https://gotoeveryone.k2ss.info/news/wr/ ... -player/1/

Fukuoka Kotaro

I believe Fukuoka Kotaro will be the next dominant Japanese player. In Ryusei he won 14 games in a row: won all 11 games in his block and 3 games in main tournament. So he is now in the final against Iyama Yuta.

And he keeps doing well in the other major tournaments as well.

Re: The Korean scene - some surprising facts

The big difference between Korean and Japanese promotion system is in Japan wins in female-only tournaments do not count. In Korea they count, but they seem to be worth 1/4 of a win in general tournaments. They get 4 points for wins in mixed tournaments and 1 point/win in mixed tournaments. https ...

Thank you, this is very good. That page is also a good resource for how the Korean promotion system works.
