Fyi, the woods used for go boards are soft woods. The japanese prefer this for the sound produced and the likelyness of making dents on the board when playing a stone. This is because they consider a board with dents from playing as beautiful (see wabi-sabi).

I have recently began to solve a lot go problems per a day, but the problem is that they have became much difficult, and I do not know the principles of them. When I read Janice Kim's books, I knew a lot of principles for solving a tsumego, like for example, the pivot, the killing shape and so on ...

Started with 200 a week more than a month ago, around 40 a day. Took a month to finish a 900 problem book, then started redoing it last week. Except for the easy ones at the start of the book I find that I still have to read to solve the problems (as in haven't memorized the solutions yet) so ...

What does it take to achieve shodan when you at a low SDK playing strength such as 7 kyu. It looks like a long race to the finish line.
