Re: The Probability of a Monkey Defeating Yi Chang-ho

Whoops, I saw that and meant to adjust it,but I forgot. I meant 0.39% in any case. hehe

Re: The Probability of a Monkey Defeating Yi Chang-ho

Is it really a 0.0039% chance that an 8d would beat a 9d? Although perhaps if it is an 8d amateur vs a 9d pro I could see that, but if you are talking 8d pro vs 9d pro, I'm sure they win more likely than that.

Technically, if you won 45% of the time against a certain rank, you are lower rank (since ...

Return to the University of Arizona

Back in the day, TucsonGo met at the UA on Monday nights I believe (it was before my time) and that got disbanded for some reason or other. We are making a return, but this time it will be one of the main of the two meetings a week.

So if you happen to be a student at the University of Arizona ...

Re: When does it get old?

I think it does get old for us individually after so many decades of studying and endless struggle to get better. Eventually you'd rather retire from such difficult study. You may still play, but not nearly as much.

As far as the entire human race goes, this game will only get old when we become ...

Re: has online go slowed down ?

Seems mostly fine online to me (things do seem to slow down summer though). Wish I could say the same for my city. lol

Exactly. I was considering possible kgs+ when I get back to the studyings, but definitely not going to if I don't have sound.

Re: stone clicking sound missing - windows 7

Yeah, it's pretty annoying... The ugly hack worked for me, but then some weird stuff started happening so I decided to just make do with no sound until something gets fixed.

Re: Can fast go be good for you?

I say just because you are playing a game with more time doesn't mean you can't push yourself to read faster. Pretty much the only thing blitz games can offer are fun factor, more games and experiences (that you remember less later), and motivation to read faster. Reading faster definitely helps ...

Re: SGF files for Invincible

But still, isn't the choice of those 80 games and their numbering something that is covered by the copyright of the book?
Are we sure that Exologist isn't a thief, or at least very immoral?
Is L19 perhaps in violation of the law simply by allowing the linking to the download?
So if I randomly ...

Re: SGF files for Invincible

So my article stands or doesn't stand? Oh, the debating humanity!

Yeah, I don't have nearly enough time to write down all the comments and put in the variations even if I wanted to bother getting permission. It is what it is.

SGF files for Invincible

Invincible is one of the books I really want to delve into (I have 2 books I need to get through first, but as soon as those are done!). Many months back I tried to read through the book before, but it was rather unsatisfying trying to sift through the kifu to see what the commentary was saying ...

Re: Are we beginner Go players insane?

Didn't you know? Everyone is insane. That's what Einstein was getting it when he said that! Fortunately for me, through the used of books and those more knowledgeable than myself, I didn't have to lose my first 100 games. I might have to now, that I'm at a plateau so to speak.

But even those who ...

Game Reviewing

I've been slacking in Go (still reading away at the books somewhat though), and I haven't really been accustomed to playing endlessly online anymore. I think it would help me and others out more to review games in the mean time. Made a new feature on my club website, but hasn't been utilized yet (we ...

That wouldn't be very good if it went down for good, although I'll have to admit I didn't use it all that much. :/

Re: League of Legends

I play this game ALL the time. Ok, maybe not all the time, but at least a few games every day. No doubt it has impeded my progress at Go, but it is quite fun to take people out in those massive teamfights, which is why I usually go mage or assassin. But I do like to go tank too.
