Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

I made with Orcachess an Go video (in german). It's first view video about Go and if it has some success, Orca would like to make more Go videos. He is a german chess youtuber with a few thousand follower, so it's nice thing, to have him making Go more popular, also he got a lot of fun with that. I ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

I've been trying to promote go for forty-five years. I've taught A LOT of folks to play. I had a popular lecture during the Hikaru surge and gave away at least 100 of those cardboard punch-out sets provided by the American Go Federation.

During all of that interaction with total newbies, I only ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

I think there is something deeply intrinsic to Go that makes it unlikely to ever become very popular in Europe. My little sister, now a veteran teacher in elementary school, tried out both Go and Chess in her classroom and she found herself and the children much more attracted to Chess, even though ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

Maybe there is something on the move. The german Chessfluencer The Big Greek (he got greek roots) pronounced in the stream of the last Chess World Championship game, that he will learn Go in the new year and stream it. It seems he want to invite Yoon Youngsun too, which lives in Hamburg, same as him ...

Re: EGC 2020 on Hold

How is the status of the EGC now? I think, the Corona situation can threaten the EGC in this year too. Probably it´s better, the EGS is 2021 also on hold. I don´t know if the responsible people already talked about it.
It´s not easy to make big events like this, during a pandemic. I don´t think ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

@danjosely

Hi thanks for the answer, also I would only agree with a part of it (even so it´s a big part).

First, you not have to depend on Pros. Enough good players could do a stram. Pros are just the first ones to consider. Look to chess, there came a lot of growing streams, not done by ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

I think part of the problem with targeting rank beginners and people who haven't played go previously is that the audience is pretty limited in terms of progress. For people who stick with go, graduating into a DDK happens relatively quickly, and then they're no longer in the target audience for a ...

Re: Idea to raise the popularity of Go

Hi everyone,

thanks for the comments so far, even if I wouldn´t fully agree with all.

@Pio2001

You made a good example, two more good examples are Go Pro Yeonwoo and dwyrin, who gives much content. You can even see already 23800 followers in dwyrins channel.

Re: EGF Rating System Commission Report 2020

I think there should be also thought making a new rating class, for tournaments with top players. The class A to C is not bad for normal tournaments I think (I don´t mention class D cause it´s only online), but in my opinion the system should be completed, wit han class S (for Special) or however ...

Idea to raise the popularity of Go

Hello everyone,

I like that Go got now some presence on Twitch and Youtube, but there are possibilities, to gain more attention.
In chess there are now some streamers, with a really growing number at followers (even among many people which where not interested in chess before), cause they are ...

Re: Western professionals as a resource

Twitch should give here some chances. It´s a platform, with a lot of viewers. I heared, the AGA already have an agreement, getting money for an big amount of viewers. The EGF is still working on it.

Yes... but. Ask someone who actually has a channel (ie, not me), but monetization of these things ...

Re: Western professionals as a resource

I hope, there are more possibilities to make mone for pros. The chance for a job and even if it´s just a side job, is the best support for them.

Re: Western professionals as a resource

I already saw, that EGF Pros did teaching or made analysis for games. That wasn´t much, but I saw it from Ali Jabarin. And I am not all around at the time, many lecturs and tournaments at the same time. Also some of our Pros are often in Asia, playing the Chinese C League or a tournament there ...
