Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

The players were not at fault. They did nothing wrong. No need to give them slack.

I meant the organizers chose not to give Surma slack in the judgement, but they are now demanding slack for themselves.

Earlier I laid the most blame on the organizers. This mess is the result of their ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

So, yes, when everybody is a noob, it is going to take time to resolve the matter. It could have taken longer. Give people some slack.

The referee (...) Give him some slack.

The organizers (...). Give them some slack.

Question: Do you not find it hypocritical that they are asking for slack and ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

The organization dropped the ball, pure and simple. This was something absolutely trivial that should have been handled in 20 minutes or less. Cases on the level with this, chess clocks breaking or timeouts occurring in online play happen at least daily in a Go Congress.

Since the organizers ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

For clarification, if the tournament organizers had simply stated that this was a loss on time, in the future we will be monitoring lag and other circumstances so this does not happen again, I would be annoyed but in general fine with it. These things happen.

However, the rationale given is just a ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

Oh wow, I did not expect this at all. I thought if they gave the win to Eric it would have been with an actual reasoning. Instead they just decided to wash their hands of responsibility and dump it on the player.

- The proctor's job did not include checking player's moves (they were only ...

Re: POLL: Lui vs Surma clock dispute

The rules exist to support the game, not the other way around. When all else fails, remember that we are playing Go, not "who has the better Internet connection."

This isn't some weird exotic case where shenanigans were had, this is just internet lag. Technical issues like internet lag or a faulty ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

Just for compare and contrast, an experience of lag woe in an official competition. Nothing could have been done there, for the server could certainly not have been changed here. Perhaps there were some protests, but they were ignored.

The site states that the player lost anyway, therefore the ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

From a TO and EGF referee (though not for a while) perspective, I would like to sum up the situation:

* One player was on their last byo-yomi period.
* A game loss by time was decided by the server.
* Player claims they had played their move while 10 seconds in the clock were remaining ...
