Re: Time wasting with Go

A lot of things have happened, and I can already see that next week will become quite stressful too. Anyway I haven't posted here for around a week, so it is time! Sadly I didn't go to the tournament after all, but I've already set my sights on another tournament happening this month.

But still ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

I had no time this weekend to study Go, but I am back on track now (a lot of IGS problems in the backlog) and here are a few games I played today, and I added some thoughts with the help of LZ.

The first game was against a 2k KGS, his profile said he was also 2k in real life (I thought probably AGA ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

I really enjoy spending part of my time on Go, it is such an intriguing game, and you never know what challenges awaits you in a new game, like a procedural dungeon in a videogame, you know the rules, but you don't know what layout or what monsters lurk in the dark.. a tricky fuseki? A challenging ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

I bought the training system without the video lectures, but I fear I can not yet answer your question. Because I started doing the Basics: Step-by-step first (of course not all problems, but just the ones were I was curious), it was good to consolidate the concepts due to the way the system is set ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

Interesting discussion, I checked it out myself with LZ and the variations seem more complex than I expected, I really didn't think the cutting stone would have so much life in it.

About my progress I don't have much to say, I made the decision to try and focus more when I play games, because I ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

I stayed home tonight (not feeling well) and decided to play a bit on KGS, to my surprise the automatch feature matched me up against a 4k (while I am a 2k on KGS) so that meant going against 2HC stones.

In the past I really disliked handicap games, I don't have that feeling anymore, I appreciate ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

True :D that would be a bit much, I wanted to say the more commonly played 3-3 invasion josekis and not all existing josekis!

Edit: And thanks for the good luck wishes :)

Re: Time wasting with Go

Thank you for your comments Uberdude, I really want to have these standard josekis down before I attend the tournament at the end of the month.

Anyways, a few days have gone by since I posted here last. I attended my local club again this week, and played a lot of online games. On OGS I am still on ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

I played 2-3 games right now (I should have played only two and taken a bit of time to study and do for example tsumego), anyway I lost all of them.

I have to admit I have quite the losing streak at the moment on OGS, and I don't know when it will get better, so I really wanted to get ahead, win ...

Re: Path to 9Dan, step by step.

Thanks for the review. I've been trying out lizzie to review my games here and there - but I feel like some of the suggestions for plays it gives me are beyond my level of reading/understanding , so I'm still hesitant to use it frequently.

But, that is perfect then for learning isn't it? If they ...

Re: Time wasting with Go

Played not that much today, so I went over another game with LZ. This time from the IGS GoPanda2 server, where I play at the moment around 1k? (I so far have only played 11 games on it and stand on 8 wins and 3 defeats) I played black and it was again with Canadian Byo-yomi, if I recall correctly ...

I sadly don't have time right now for a long response, but I just wanted to share this with y'all (a bit of history of the development of the 3-3 invasion after AlphaGo's emergence)

Re: Time wasting with Go

Another game, this time against a 1k on OGS, played with Canadian byo-yomi (3 minutes per 10 moves) and if I remember correctly, 1 minute main time, 3 minutes felt long enough in the early middle game, but later the situations at the top right and me reading out stuff on the left side sucked my time ...

Re: Challenging 5 Dans—Hades Redemption

I also feel Leela and other AI are god send, now you don't have to wait for a stronger player to be around, why didn't XY work? Why is Z the better move?

Yeah, it eliminates the confusion. Two players at 1D strength could be thinking about 3 or 4 possible moves in a situation. They both could ...
