Re: Rosewood Go bowls - ok to buy again?

It might be true that bans won't stop the trade in endangered species, but a decline in interest them will. The easiest way to accomplish this is to simply stop buying luxury items made from endangered species. Overexploitation of rosewood is not only endangering this tree species, but all the ...

Mateusz has released his last video review for this competition (video 7 in the first post above).

I'd like to thank Mateusz Surma for his excellent lessons and I can recommend everyone to have a look at them :D

Re: ZBaduk - LeeLa Zero and KataGo from your webbrowser

Congratulations on the major update, spook

When I click the 'Next move' button, the move count updates (e.g. from 'Move 1' to 'Move 2'), but all of the other functionalities aren't affected. For example, the move isn't displayed on the board and the cursor in the game tree isn't updated (see ...

Re: Mateusz Surma 2p reviews amateur games

I've added another one of Mateusz videos to the first post of this thread (video 6). It's a review of a game between a 9 kyu and a 12 kyu. I hope you'll enjoy it! :D

There's a nice list on OGS. One good example is Shape Up!.

Re: Ridiculous OGS Moderator

@wingly: based on the way you communicate, I understand some volunteers might not want to spend too much time talking to you. They are not your employees and I know from experience that some volunteers might rather quit than endure harsh and negative comments from the people they're trying to help ...

Re: Mateusz Surma 2p reviews amateur games

This time Mateusz created a video review of a DDK game from the competition (see video 3 in the first post). It's a bit longer than the previous ones and full of comprehensive basics that I personally learned a lot from. Enjoy! :D

Re: How to review your own games as a kyu?

Go is unlike any game you’ve ever played and getting better requires that you unlearn some basic western concepts such as kill, win, take, steal, and dominate. Go is not like the mafia. Go instead is more like running a legitimate business; it is all about influence, patience, and efficiency. Force ...

Re: Radeon RX 5700 XT absolutely useless

@Drew: what was your reason for buying an AMD Radeon card?

It's a fair question. The computer in question was built to maximize gaming performance value, and in that respect the 5700XT was an excellent choice. A performance-equivalent nVidia card would have been almost 2x the cost. It just ...

Re: ZBaduk - LeeLa Zero and KataGo from your webbrowser

I have two suggestions:

It would be nice to have an option to set a default engine. Currently I have to configure the engine each time I open ZBaduk to use KataGo with 6.5 komi and Japanese rules.
Deeper analyses. It would be great if variations could be produced similarly to OGS. I really like ...

Re: Personal library of mistakes

I'd like to do something seamingly simple: add a variation to an existing game that improves on the actual game and add a comment to it, e.g. "Black is strong around here, so the double hane is powerful." I'd then like to export a series of diagram pairs: actually played and improved variation.

I'm ...

Re: Radeon RX 5700 XT absolutely useless

@Drew: what was your reason for buying an AMD Radeon card? I really admire the ideas of open frameworks like OpenCL (and OpenGL and the like), but isn't it really hard to beat the performance of NVIDIA GPUs with tensor cores in combination with NVIDIA's proprietary CUDA platform? At least, that's my ...

Re: Mateusz Surma 2p reviews amateur games

New video by Mateusz Surma 2p (see video 2 in the first post). This time he's reviewing an SDK game from the competition. I really like this video, because it goes into a lot of fundamentals, so it's useful for all levels.
