Re: Amateur makes history
From what I heard about Korean inseis is that they are capable of beating even the top pros in Korea (who are very strong indeed). So it won't be surprised that the odd one/two will string together a winning run, make it to the final of a Go competition and perhaps even winning it. Statistically it ...

Re: Entry Grade
The person in question is a British Player who entered a tournament at 3d and won 2/3 which including beating a British 4 dan. As a result his exit GoR would be close to 3.8 dan on the BGA ratings list which would have made him one of the top British players. If his entry grade was 2 dan, won and ...

Re: Do you enjoy your job?
I'm flabbergasted at the number of people who either enjoy or 'live with' their jobs. I've never had a job I didn't feel hatred towards; never had one that didn't make me want to deliberately crash my car just to escape entrapment. The madness of it is too much for me to think about.

Re: Do you have will power?
I just do what's best for me in the long term. For example last year I quit my job out of the blue because I am not progressing as I had wanted. After that I headed down the contracting/temping/locuming route inorder to find the job I wanted. After about 6 month I got one. Having some willpower made ...

Re: What has Go done for you outside of Go?
At a minimum, I think go helps you see examples of how your actions have consequences, even over a long period of time. I see aji in the everyday world around me, and I'm aware that certain actions are joseki and others aren't. While in my work I'm not involved in many "competitive" activities, I ...

Re: Do you enjoy your job?
Man, it is not so dramatic I am not really soo unhappy with my job. A job that I would enjoy doing, could for example be as a musician. What I do instead is sitting 8 hours a day in front of a computer and checking whether some stupid technical ideas are inventive enough to deserve a patent. It ...

Maybe I don't play aggressively in fear of putting them off me personally. Probably the desperation of getting a girlfriend.

Re: Do men play more aggressively against women?
Strangely, I tend to play more passively and peacefully when playing against females of my strength. Unless I am losing than I just jump right in and fight.

Re: The Orient and Other PC Discussion
Wouldn't it be better to judge a person for what instead of what they look like? We wouldn't have to have discussions like this
To be honest, I think sometimes certain elements in the Western society are so obessed about colour, gender, sexual orientation and being PC in general that the message ...

Re: European Professional Go League
Its interesting to see how this whole 'Oriental' debate is dominated by 'White' people. I haven't seen any any 'Orientals' actively taking part. I might be wrong though.
To be honest as a Chinese living in UK I don't find the word offensive. I also find this debate to be highly amusing.

Go Groups on Facebook.
Hi all
There are a lot of Go groups on Facebook, some are associated with a national organisation, and some aren't. I run one of the groups and I wanted to seek people's opinion on what a good Go Group page on Facebook should consist of. Naturally a group should allow you to post photos from Go ...
