Re: Tsumego answer

BTW, life and death problems often occur in restricted spaces, because with enough space it is usually easy to live. :) Typically, but not always, they will involve a potential 1 pt. eye, because that's the smallest eye you can make, and space is at a premium. In this problem, where is Black's ...

Re: AI or human players

Strong AIs like LeelaZero are hard to distinguish from human play, especially since humans have been imitating AIs. The main difference is that LeelaZero makes fewer mistakes.

About weaker AIs: I used to play against cosumi when I was a beginner. The AI is not bad for a beginner but its style ...

Re: AI or human players

AI plays aggressively, but not overaggressively. It can punish all my overplays but it never makes overplays or trick moves itself. That's one aspect that I miss when playing AI.

Hm, I will have to look at some trick moves later. At my level, I would not be able to tell if a move was a trick or ...

AI or human players

Hello all,

I was wondering what sort of preferences players on Life in 19x19 have when they play.

Do you only play real people, mix it up with AI games or tend to play more with AIs?

Have you observed differences in moves or even play style?

If your opponent's identity was masked and you could ...

Re: One wrong move...

After White B2, you can counter-atari with B3, then White captures with A1, and then you play A3.

(A1 being the bottom left corner.)

Cheers, jlt. Looks like I definitely resigned too early though it would have better if I played A3 instead of E5.

I really need to work on being patient when ...

One wrong move...

Or rather, one of many but this was a very wrong one.

Please see this game on Cosumi:

Re: Why did Go Droid pass?

@Uberdude
Thanks. Yeah, the explanations at Sensei's library really made the answer clear.
Apologies for this very reply. This is my first weekend where I've been able to sit down and check the forum! Extraordinary times.

Re: Why did Go Droid pass?

Why didn't white play anything in the top left or upper part of the board?

Because Black could kill any white stone in that area. There is no moe interesting move on the board for White, so White passes.

Hmmm okay. I can sort of see it now - thank you. I didn't think it would be possible to win ...

Why did Go Droid pass?

Scratching my head as I don't understand why my opponent (the Go Droid app) kept on passing after this move:
https://i.ibb.co/7G3jbgL/Screenshot-20200307-180142.png

I played with a 5 stone handicap. Why didn't white play anything in the top left or upper part of the board? If you were white, what ...

@EdLee Hello and thank you!

Did you mean to make 9x9 boards in your diagrams ?
... because your diagrams are open-ended on the right edge.
If your diagrams are supposed to be 9x9, then in your second diagram,

[Hactar Go] Why is this tsumego solution correct?

-Edit - I got a bit confused with my diagrams in my first post so this is the correction version.

I have just started learning using the Interactive Way to Go website (it's so good!) and solve Tsumego on my phone, but the app I use doesn't really explain why a certain shape is the correct solution ...
