Thanks, wessanenoctupus!
Edit: AGA has two clubs listed in Flushing:
Korea Baduk, 36-18 Union Street
NY Wei-chi, 35-30 Union Street (Though you have to go to their website to find the address. And I have a report that this one may not be meeting any longer -- but not sure if it's the same club ...

Does this mean we aren't going to be able to convince you to start gambling?

Re: New York -- need a club check
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Just to be clear: I'm not looking for a go club where I can play. I am trying to find out if this particular club should still be on the AGA website list "where to play go."
It sounds like this club was operating as recently as 3 years ago. Can anyone verify whether ...

New York -- need a club check
Hi folks,
I'm trying to contact chapters and clubs on the AGA list at m I have no email address for this one, and three times now the phone has rung unanswered. I figure the place might be defunct, or it might be a thriving non-English-speaking go paradise. Can some adventurous go player near NYC ...

Re: AGA priorities
Well, this checking on defunct chapters business turns out to be more time-intensive than I'd expected. I tried to automate it somewhat, but it was harder to track the responses I got that way. (I'd ask for volunteers to help, but I figure that giving out people's contact info over the internet is ...

Well, I've made a little more progress. Now usgo.org is down -- must be The Universe's way of telling me to get off the computer, and go walk the dogs.

Re: AGA priorities
Ok, that's all the time I have for this today. I've gotten through the ones that expired prior to 1996. (Except for that chapter in Japan, the Takadanobaba Go Club -- I don't have an email address for them. There's a phone number, if someone fluent in Japanese and with a better calling plan than ...

Re: AGA priorities
Email clubs every six months to prompt for updates. If they don't respond within one month, send a second email and if they don't respond to that, post "cannot contact, club may be defunct" on the website. Leave it like that for a while, and then drop the listing.
There may be ways to tweak that ...

Re: AGA priorities
Can anyone comment on how good/bad the current chapter/club list is?
Well, a quick check reveals that, for my town, there is still a club being listed that has not actually met in at least 6 years.
It's relatively solved technically, but the people part is still gooey. The list currently draws ...

Re: Memorable games.
The guy who taught me to play go also "loaned" me his copy of Appreciating Famous Games . (John Harriman, if you want your book back, I still have it.) When I was ~10k, I decided to memorize some Shusaku games. AFG has a game between Shuwa and Shusaku, called in the book "The Autumn Leaves Were ...

Re: finding policy docs
Thanks, Dennis.
Hmm.... "Ethics for AGA Volunteers"? Looks like there's a bunch of stuff on that page I probably oughta read. Looks like that page needs to be part of the AGA Volunteers Orientation briefing that I didn't get.
