Re: One-piece shin-kaya or multi-piece kaya?

[quote]Take a look at what I would call my serendipitous acquisition which has a unique and interesting story.[quote]

Absolutely beautiful. The sheen that the board maintains even after hundreds of years is stunning. The picture of that board by itself speaks volumes as to why genuine kaya is THE ...

Re: YMI slate & shell stones and bowls

I believe they are Kuroki Goishiten stones. I have a set from KGT and am happy with them. Unfortunately for me, I bought mine direct from the KGT site and had to pay the shipping rates from Japan to US (PA).

I thought about purchasing those stones since the price is right & mine are size 28 but ...

To those who have purchased from KGT...

I'm curious, how negotiable are the prices? Anyone have any experience in haggling with Mr. Kuroki?

Welcome, noble being from far future.
Have any advice on lottery numbers?

Yes I am from the future. Thankfully I didn't use a Hot Tub Time Machine to get here. There are now about 20 billion humans living on earth, mostly in underground cities. Although ...

Re: When did you start playing go?

I first learned of the game in 20008 walking by a board game kiosk in the local mall and perusing the selection. All the "run of the mill" games were there and none caught my interest. As I was about to move on, I saw the John Hansen version of Go on a shelf. One of the best things I've done in my ...

Re: Democracy or absolute monarchy?

I prefer a Republic. Where everyone is free to determine their own course and destiny. Not subject to the whims of either one person (monarch/dictator) nor a majority (congress/parliament). With a simple (elegant) set of laws for the sole purpose of maintaining order (not individual control ...

Re: What determines goban sound quality.

Wood is a natural substance and is going to have irregularities. Even a very uniform one piece board will probably have some irregularity in density, color, etc. IMO, that's part of the aesthetic of using a natural product, as opposed to plastic, MDF, etc. Unless your board sounds like a Model M ...

Re: What determines goban sound quality.

Yes. It's a 3 piece board. The two end pieces seem to have a darker grain pattern than the center piece. Do you think that darker grain pattern = more muted sound and harder feel?

What determines goban sound quality.

I'm curious as to what determines the quality of the 'clicking' sound when placing stones on a board. Anyone have any expert or experiential thoughts?

I have a Hyuga Kaya table board from KGT. On my board, there are areas, particularly in the center, where the sound and feel of stone placement is ...

Re: Travel Go board recommendations

I really like the sets from Myung-In in Korea. I have the Baduk/Chess set for traveling. It's certainly not pocket sized, but the stones are big enough that you can hold them properly.

I also have the Myung-In set. It's very sturdy and well made. Redbead, did yours come with a sticker on the ...

Re: Buying a go clock >.<

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the DGT 2010. I think it's a great clock. It has Go settings including Japanese & Canadian Byoyomi. Personally, I also like the sleek asthetic but of course that's just my opinion. Also, the price is less than Chronos & Meijinsen.
